Description Y'know, my Dad has been listening to Eric Clapton for as long as I can remember, and honestly, my only knowledge of him was that he wrote "Tears in Heaven"--a song that I still can't listen to because it's just too freaking sad. Heck, until recently, I thought Layla was by B.B. King (yeah, yeah, I know. My musical knowledge is nothing shy of atrocious. Unless you ask me about the Bealtes--I know loads about the Beatles!). And then I got iTunes. And someone on the network had Eric Clapton songs. And they were pretty friggen good. And then I went home for spring break and burned a bunch of my Dad's blues CDs. And then, the other day, I actually got around to listening to them.

And I. Was blown. Away.

How is it that my Dad loves this guy, and I never even noticed how great his music is? He's fantastic. Messed up as all get out, but absolutely fantastic. And British! C'mon, if there's anything more sweet that a gravelly blues voice and fantastic guitar-playing, it's the addition of being British. So funny when you hear him talk before/after he sings.

I've been totally fried about finals and things, and ghosting styles for one class and whatnot, and for the heck of it, I decided to try and do it in 's style...I'm not quite sure why, but my brain made a jump involving George Harrison, the Beatles, the Beat, and yeah... Didn't work. Doesn't look like him at all (the sketch came out better). And I'd rather try to draw him with shorter hair.

But yeah. So. Eric Clapton. Because he is sexy. He is not God, whatever the grafitti says. But he is one fine musician.

*scampers off to listen to more* Why have I only started discovering music these past two years?

Awesome! Reading the comments, I couldn't help but relate. That is much how I discovered Eric Clapton's music, myself. I too am a Beatles fan, you have good taste! Keep up the good work!

Just the other day I found out that I have the exact same birthday as Eric Clapton Layla's been one of my favorite pieces of music ever since I heard it on the car radio in sixth grade.

If you like the unplugged version, the electric guitar version is epic. I had the privilage of seeing him perform live 2 years ago. Best. Concert. Of All Time. Hard to believe he's 63 and still going strong. Great design, the art is awesome.

And no, Clapton aint God, but he seems to be endowed with unearthly musical talent.

Thank you! It's so cool that you got to see him--must be one heck of a showman! 63! Man...I had no idea...

Yeah, pretty crazy huh? It was an epic concert. If you ever get the chance, I'd advise you to pay whatever crazy price the ticket is and see the man perform. He is indeed an excellent showman, and his guitar riffs are still spot-on......if a tad lengthy. I think Cocain was 12 minutes just by itself......not that that's bad. It rocked. Yes indeed. And it's even more amazing given his age. He's holding up much better than Jagger, for sure .

Clapton may or may not be god, but he's pretty close. Sure has been around a lot in the music scene.
Freakin great piece, though. I love it. Awesome.

Third most talented guitarist in the world; only second to Michael Hedges and Tommy Emmanuel.
I love the style that you did this in, gives it a bit of a blues feel. Kudos

I love Clapton (ESPECIALLY his fast songs!), though I prefer the Beatles. I got into the Beatles through Dad and had always listened to them growing up. Mom and Dad both like Clapton, so they doped me up with rock appreciation. Don't even get me started on Fleetwood Mac

I am surprised you never got into Clapton sooner, what with loving the Beatles, since Clapton was all into George Harrison's wife and all. I like this picture a loooot. And you did a great job with 's style cos at first I thought it was hers *LOL*

What a cool picture. It's flawless and the subject is excellent. I've liked Eric Clapton since I was a girl but I've not devoted enough time to knowing his music intimately even though he was a big influence on my favourite guitarist: Eric Johnson. This is a good reminder to break those albums out. Ta!

Actually, it works pretty well; especially if you've seen pictures of him in the 60's and 90's; it kinda fits into that timeline feel. I like it, particularly the color scheme.

Yes, "Layla" truly rocks but it's his slower stuff that I always enjoyed more.
My favorite Clapton has generally been "Wonderful tonight". If you haven't heard it, seek and find.

"Tears in Heaven" always makes me want to cry, but I always listen, too.

Don't worry about catching up on music: there's over 50 years of content the world over, just in the Rock era. And there's jazz, blues, etc. Music is a country all its own, like literature: you visit over and over, for differing lengths, sometimes staying places you've already been, but sometimes you explore and discover new places, new paths, new vistas. And you get to do it all your life. What could be better?

Thanks.

That is the coolest metaphor for music I think I have ever heard.
"Wonderful Tonight" is such a beautiful song. I actually prefer the slower version of "Layla" (but the fast one's cool too), but I think some of my favorite stuff of his is his old skool blues, like the Robert Johnson stuff.

He always has described himself as a blues artist, throughout his career. That out of the way, pretty much everything he has made that uses sound as a medium for transmission is amazing. Slow or fast, Eric Clapton rocks.

"Tears In Heaven" is always so hard to listen to for me, but it is just such a beautiful song that I have to! Then there's "Layla" which is just so powerful. Clapton is amazing in so many way; his guitar never ceases to blow me away everytime I put on a song of his.

ROCKIN' ART - wicked awesome!

Clapton is one of those guys that for some reason I haven't done a lot of listening to/don't know much info outside of 'he played guitar on While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. I need to do some listening.

Don't feel bad, I've only really started discovering bands I've known about forever recently, too. Like the Who and David Bowie.

Heh, all I knew about him prior to a few months ago was that he stole George's wife, and George was fairly cool with it. Despite how much Sheana's stuff makes me want to lsiten to the Who, I haven't got around to it yet...

korybing In reply to xanykaos [2006-05-13 18:54:45 +0000 UTC]

Don't do it, it's a trap. Sheana's building an army of Wholigans and she's going to try to take over the world. Resist!

I didn't know that about Clapton either. I always think I know a lot about that time period and then I find out that I basically know jack diddly.

xanykaos In reply to korybing [2006-05-13 19:04:25 +0000 UTC]

Lol. Then I shall gather an army of blues fans and celtic nuts, and there shall be a grande ould battle for musical world domination. We'll fail, ultimately, because smashing guitars would just frighten most blues fans, and the celtic nuts will all be drunk, but, y'know, it should be spectacular to watch.

Heh, considerng that I know jack about the time period we actually live in, I'm rarely surprised to discover that I don't know anything beyond useless Beatles trivia about the 60's...

Oh man, I don't know if I could choose sides in a battle between Wholigans and Celtic music.

Also never underestimate the power of a drunken man wielding uilleann bagpipes. I'm sure those could do some damage.

I INFLUENCED SOMEBODY, OH BOY.

Pretty neat! My dad's nuts about Clapton as well. He's not one of my favorite musicians, but he is pretty damn talented and has done some good stuff. Plus for childhood memory reasons, his album 'Another Ticket' always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
