Also, for the weapons, I am able to catch a flamer-type weapon in the left hand, a big autocannon or gauss rifle in the left shoulder, the mace, and a pair of Streak SRM 6s (one in each lower leg).

Interestingly, I'd figured out a way to fit a TacOps mace onto a 100-tonner: mount it as a hand-held weapon (it weighs 10 tons, after all, the weight limit for a 'Mech to lift something without TSM). Add in TSM, and you get a weapon that can hit twice as hard as a HGR, cracking open any location on any 'Mech and completely pulverising any 'Mech that isn't in the Assault class. 'Course, the only problem is that the 'Mech requires both hands to use said mace (per the hand-held weapons rules).

Haha, that's one way to go about it, yes!

THIS is really cool, and sorta aesthetically similar to a Cerberus redesign I did ( not that I'd compare my art to yours; your work is great ) and it makes me want to see what you could do with the design, and what you could come up with for a Cerberus design.
What I'm failing to say here is, I reallllly like your art style, and good job on this design. Evokes a lot of FD-style of 'mech aesthetic.

Actually, come to think of it, it does have some rather Cerberusque lines to it, doesn't it? Slapped this one together in literally a couple of days.
You're right in that I've been studying Alex's work for a couple of years now. I use some techniques he shared with the rest of us on /btg/ a long time ago, namely shift-clicking to make straight lines with both paint- and eraser-brushes and carving whitespace with negative drawing (or, in traditional media terms, painting with white out), though obviously not to as an extensive degree as his work--because I'm not as good at it, har! I hadn't really polished this one to a printable level and it's only slightly better than a basic sketch, seeing as bits are fairly off-model if you look carefully, but it gets the point across.
I noticed your gallery has a lot of attention to crunchy `Mech detail, much more than mine, which is good! So I guess we're both FD copycats, though it looks like you're still practicing with the fundamentals. As an unfortunately self-taught artist I had to brute force my way through a lot of my bad habits by drawing a lot from life and doing inane, boring exercises like what you find in tutorials and books. (Though I feel I haven't done this Enough.) If you've got a good image processing program, try giving your tablet a real workout by doing your drawing and coloring on computer. It's very easy to experiment and fix things on the fly when you get good at it and learn all of a program's functions. The ability to manipulate selections and screw with layer masks makes things really, really convenient. Just don't worry too much about details until after you've got a solid structure, that way you won't feel guilty about erasing a lot of hard work when you find your basic pose or composition doesn't look "right" they way it does in your head--this really helped speed up my work, too.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I really do appreciate it. Really cool, and helpful when other artists pass stuff down like that. I'm sure it's fairly obvious that I'm self-taught, too; though my art can't hold a candle to yours as of now But the advice is really what helps my style evolve and my technique sharpen. I really ought to focus more on getting the basic outline and shape, I suppose, more than focussing on the nitty-gritty details first, but like you said that's one of those pesky habits.
I mostly noticed the cockpit-shoulders area of your 'mech that stood out as similar contours to my Cerberus, and I really dig the design. I don't usually spend more than a few hours on any one piece, as they're predominantly pencil-sketched, then PS-Colored, but I ought to give a more in-depth go at a piece on of these days. Thanks again for the reply and the help
