Description
Lt. Robert Hampton 'Hammy' Gray piloted this Corsair Mk.IV for the British Fleet Air Arm (FAA) during WWII. He was attacking a Japanese ship on the 9th of August, 1945, the same day the second atomic bomb was dropped on Japan.
After being hit by flak, he continued to attack the destroyer and he ended up crashing into the sea. He was the last Canadian casualty of WWII and he undertook the last act of WWII that was awarded with the Victoria Cross.
