Description

These two have been a sort of secret project of mine that I developed when I should have been paying attention in class don't tell me how to live my life Where pantaurs once crawled all over my notes now sit adorable doodles of these two.  And it's not just the characters!  Noooo no no I gave the species a name and some background too since...I could not find turtle-taurs anywhere to save my life So I thought it'd be fun ^^

So here's a little description of my turtle-taur concept :3

~~~
This little guy is called a Torcovak (turtle-taur...hopefully you can tell, I tried making it obvious with the flipper >.>; ).  Basically they're a giant race of sea-faring folk. They drift in and out if shallow and deep waters, and are fairly docile and gentle to any fishermen, merfolk, or ships they come across. They're really good protectors, what with their size and that thick shell of theirs.  Slow, but sturdy and reliable.  Despite being gentle giants of the mer-world, some species can get fairly aggressive if they feel like the humans they're protecting are threatened...so you're pretty much as safe as you could be riding on the back of one out in the open sea.  Some of them even offer their services up to humans, ferrying humans and cargo across bodies of water on their backs, or escorting ships safely in return for either a bit of  company, a bit of whatever seafood they catch along the way, or a human artifact to decorate their shells with.  Schools of small merfolk are also commonly seen hanging around these giants of the sea for a bit of extra protection.
As big as these sea giants get, they actually start off life fairly small...very very small...Torcovak eggs are too small for the adults to take care of, so much like real turtles, the adults come to shore, lay the eggs, and head back to deeper waters. Soooo the babies are pretty much left to fend for themselves until they get bigger, which happens very quickly in a short span of time >u>
This little guy ended up getting stranded in a tide pool on his way out to sea, trying to survive the hungry crabs and starfish that were stuck inside with him until high tide came.  Lucky for him, a little girl out collecting seashells spotted him and came to his rescue!  He may look a bit nervous, but trust me, he's in good hands >u> Being a little girl, she does the first thing any little girl would do when they see some small and cute baby animal...set it free take it home and keep it!  They grow up to be in a sort of big sister, little brother relationship...even though she won't be the 'bigger' one for very long (I'll be drawing more of these two, trust me.  Still debating whether or not I'll write anything...)
If you're interested, you're welcome to make up your own little turtle-taur person!  Or a giant turtle-taur person. Open species, just not open characters >u<. I based this little guy off the Leatherback sea turtle...so his shell design will get a little more pronounced as he grows. The designs very for each subspecies, and can get more colorful as they mature. (Also, I've decided that the special throat anatomy of leatherback turtles makes vore impractical...just look up 'leatherback turtle throat' if you're curious as to why.  But these two will remain a vore-free pairing. Good news to anyone that isn't into it :3)
also also...this is probably the most dynamic pose I've ever drawn in the history of FOREVER 8D...but her face ;n; uggh faces are my enemy...so is art in general XD I am quite happy with how this turned out though ^u^
also also also...this has nothing to do with the drawing, but this is now officially my favorite plz
Yeah, can't think of any turtle-taurs. I had this picture in my head the other day of a caterpillar taur who would be chubby and obnoxious. It's strange I've never seen one of those since people draw so many fairies, and fairies are similar to butterfly-taurs right? Oh my god, I just blew my own mind O.O
Of course with my luck, I ended up finding a few turtle taurs after making this after digging a little deeper xP at least my idea of a species and their purpose is still original :3
Ooh, caterpillar-taurs! 8D You know, I have seen those adorable chunky taurs around in stories...and they actually don't turn into butterfly taurs, but fairies! 8D Like, their the pupa stage of fairies and they're all chunky and the fairies take care of them until they go through that metamorphis stuff they teach you about in elementary school. So your theory was pretty much spot on...how's that for having your mind blown? X3
Really? I had no idea. I guess it was too good of an idea to have gone unthought. Fairies come baby laughter? Pffft, naw, they come from bugs obviously! I'm going to have to mess with my niece with that one
Yeaaaah, nature can be scary sometimes 0x0; It's a fairly neat adaptation though!  Helps to keep food down when they expel water...soooooo...yeah, very vore impractical >u>; Even if he didn't have the spikes, I might have left the vore out anyways.  They just don't seem like the right characters for it >u<
But yes yes yes!  Thank you so much!  I'm glad you enjoy them and the species concept! :3 I'm definitely going to be playing around with these two and mayhaps a story idea for a while.   and yesh his little seashell >u< Silly sea turtle, you already have a shell.
hehe practical for survival, not practical for voring friends
Haha, thank you so much >u< I needed a good pair of fluff characters to distract me from life and all the crazy-bad stuff happening in my Caged No More story o.o; Thus, baby turtle-taurs were born >u< I'm glad you like it! ^u^
