A photograph I took for a photo essay several years ago. My project tried to capture the concept of kenopsia, that lonely atmosphere of abandonment when a once-busy place becomes empty and silent. Here's the excerpt associated with this photo:

"Moments of kenopsia can be fragile. We can find it in the lingering light of the setting sun, fading to gray on an empty beach. Day turns to dusk. The last truck leaves, carrying away dune buggies and straggling tourists. The songs of seagulls soon stop, their soaring forms vanishing from the darkened sky. Footprints and tire tracks are washed away by the sea, our ephemeral marks disappearing from the land. For a minute longer, quivering seafoam lays its trail on the sands. The roaring of waves continues on."
