I'm confused. You said it was platonic, so why would you care if they were looking at another boy or girl? "Platonic love" doesn't mean a love that doesn't exist in English, it means a love that's friendship-love only, nothing romantic or sexual.

Actually, platonic love applies to friendships. Deep ones. Of the non-sexual variety. They can be fluffy and affectionate as well, just not of the romantic kind. Platonic can be used for friends, siblings, parents, or just about any sort of caring relationship that isn't romantic.
But, still, platonic relationships can become romantic ones. Preferably of the non-incest sort.
Example: I love my sister, platonically, and vice versa.
Example2: Iruka loves Naruto... platonically.
Whichever makes sense to you more.
Just because two words, both of a different language, have a similar spelling, does not make it have a similar meaning as well.
