(Mega-Man X VS Beast Wars)

The connections between X and Optimus Primal are that they are both 90s successors to iconic 80s blue robot war heroes (Mega Man and Optimus Prime, respectively) who not only carry their names but also bare striking resemblances to them whether it’s intentional (X) or coincidental (Optimus Primal).

Both come from highly beloved sequels that are praised for daring to have more complex stories than their predecessors (Mega Man X1 to Mega Man X5 and Transformers: Beast Wars) but those sequels were sadly followed by relatively more mediocre installments (Mega Man X6 to Mega Man X8 and Transformers: Beast Machines).

Both their stories are set in the far future where their predecessors are distant memories and the constant wars and battles they fought are over (Mega Man X franchise takes place in the year 21XX which is 100 years after the Classic Mega Man franchise took place in the year 20XX while Transformers: Beast Wars takes place 300 years after the end of the Great War between the Autobots and the Decepticons) and their stories introduced new species that are the next evolutionary steps of their kinds (Reploids being the next evolutionary step of Robot Masters while the Maximals and Predacons being the next evolutionary step of Autobots and Decepticons).

Both started off with very humble beginnings (X was Dr. Cain’s assistant while Optimus Primal was an exploration ship captain) but were eventually thrusted into becoming heroes in wars that determined the fates of not just their own robotic kinds but also organic life (X joined the Maverick Hunters in the Maverick Wars to stop a corrupted Sigma from destroying humanity and turning all Reploids into Mavericks under his command while Optimus Primal had to rise up as the leader of the Maximals in the Beast Wars to stop Megatron and the Predacons from killing Optimus Prime who was still in stasis on prehistoric Earth which would lead to the Decepticons winning the Great War and the Predacons ruling Cybertron in cold machine-like harmony) despite either being very inexperienced (X never knowing conflict up until he had to stop Sigma) or past their prime (Optimus Primal being a veteran of the last Great War between the Maximals and the Predacons).

Both brought new forms upon their species that represented their robotic kinds becoming closer to organic life (X being the first robot with free will as well as the template for all the Reploids that came after him while Optimus Primal introduces organic beast modes).

Despite every morally questionable choice they’ve made in going up against incredibly cunning and intelligent robot leader villains (Sigma and Megatron, respectively) that wanted to assimilate their entire species under their own wills by using viruses (Sigma Virus and Transformation Virus, respectively) and destroy all organic life and even after their species almost went extinct at the ends of their respective wars (Dr. Weil corrupted the Mother Elf into the Dark Elf whose influence spawned more Maverick attacks while Megatron extracted the sparks of countless Cybertronians incapacitated by the Transformation Virus and planned to absorb them into his own spark), they sacrificed themselves to bring true world peace and ended up bringing new eras where the technological and organic are one (X resorted to using his body as a seal to lock the Dark Elf in Yggdrasil at the cost of his mind being separated from his body but in the end, he finally brought peace between Reploids and humans while Optimus Primal sent himself and Megatron plummeting into the heart of Cybertron which destroyed them both but also freed the sparks Megatron stole and triggered a reformatting of Cybertron into a techno-organic world).

Both ended up moving on as spiritual guides for the next generations of heroes to stop new villains (X’s soul persisted in the form of a Cyber-Elf who guided a reawakened Zero in order to stop Copy X and Dr. Weil while after the conclusion of Transformers: Beast Wars, a version of Optimus Primal who found himself in the alternate universe known as Viron 102.0 Beta was sent on a mission by the Alternity that would lead to him becoming a Protector and acting as a spirit guide for the Robots in Disguise 2001 incarnation of Optimus Prime in order to stop Cryotek and Galvatron).
