Description Okay, so..in reality, I drew half of this in february, but I was thumbing through my previous art and I realized that it was abandoned and unfinished, and that it matched amazingly to my latest redraw goal, so I decided to take it out, dust it off and finish it. n_n

Anyway, this is another 'new' character -- or, at least, this is the first time I've drawn him, even if I've had his design in mind for about two or three years, and the actual idea of his character in mind for absolute years, nearly half of my life, mainly because of one reason: he's the father of most of my main characters, Demon, Ruby, Chaos and Bandit, and therefore already has links to most of my characters and has had to be mentioned time and again, even if I only decided on a name about four or five months ago.

So, this is Kaine. He's about three hundred pounds, because he's not just some winged wolf, and as you may have noticed from his markings, his father was a snow leopard - and a winged one at that, even if I have no finished drawings of Kaine's parents.

Kaine is pretty much one of my lesser-known characters, and one that I doubt I would use in role plays, unless for brief appearances. Mostly, he'll just be mentioned, and now he finally has a picture for people to use to put a name with a face, so to speak.

As for personality, Kaine's really noble and into honor and respect and all, even if he believes that it should be aimed at him because of his age, wisdom and power. Despite the fact that he has had many years to learn how to stay alive, he still has rather poor social skills and can be outright impolite and rude to those he doesn't see 'worthy' of his respect.

Because of this, he has gained the eternal admiration of his youngest son, Bandit, as well as the absolute hatred of his second-eldest daughter, Demon. While Bandit looks up to his father for his regal personality, Demon considers him "a useless prick" in her words, seeing as she doesn't believe it's fair of him to treat others like they're dirt simply because they aren't as experienced as he is in one thing or another.

However, this could also be because he left her supposedly human mother to care for her and her two siblings, saying that it was for her own safety and that having him around would have been an unnecessary danger, as he was being hunted at the time, and didn't want to make his family become additional targets.

Demon doesn't believe that this is true -- not that he was being hunted, but that it was right of him to abandon them like he did, and especially not to find a new mate and 'forget all about his family' later on. She learned of all of this in her early teenage years when she went searching for him again, and succeeded in locating him, only to get into a physical fight after arguing about one another's previous actions and loyalty.

Although he nearly killed his own daughter, she eventually won the fight, after struggling immensely to do so, and both wound up with matching scars across their throats. Regardless of this, she refused to kill him and fled instead, leaving him to finally drag himself away to hide while he healed. He eventually returned to full strength, although the two have yet to come in contact with one another again, which, granted, is probably a very good thing, as the bitter resentment between them has easily grown to seething hatred.

I don't know if I'll have them meet up again -- it certainly could make for a good plotline, I suppose, but for now, like I said, he's simply mentioned occasionally, and after years of having his character in mind, I just figured it was about time that I finally drew him. ^^

Oh god, this is nearly five years old! xDD; I really need to redraw him, he's one of my favorite characters. @@;

As for your question, just practice, really. I've never been to any art classes or schools or anything, if that's what you were asking? ^^'

Pretty much since I could hold a pencil, really.. ^^' Canines have always been my most active subject.

I didn't start consciously trying to improve until I hit around eleven or so, though; then I drew for hours every day, sometimes anywhere from four to twelve hours or more total, and many with few to no rest or interruptions.
A lot of the time, I'd draw the same thing over and over, because I was never satisfied with it and had to keep starting over.

I didn't start getting any level of real skill until I was around sixteen, though, when I got my wolfdog hybrid, whom I studied every single chance I got: his anatomy, his movements, his body language; how he looked from this or that angle or perspective in one pose or another...I'm not exaggerating when I say that I owe at least half, if not a lot more of my improvement solely to him, for having a living model to be around constantly. <3

O wow, see canines are my most active subject also, I'd love to have as much time to draw as you but i'm always busy, so I only have about 1-2 hours maybe every other day. And I only started when I was 11, and i'm only 13 so I wish I was as talented as you, love your work. <3

Hey, just do the best you can do. <3 And I wouldn't advise "practicing" as much as I did, anyway..I'll be twenty this month, and it's left me with moderate nerve and joint damage in my drawing hand. ._.;
Not to mention, even if I'm pretty good at drawing canines, I still can't do wings, humans, felines or horses, all of those being subjects I'd literally give my left hand to have a decent level of skill at. uu;

After nine years with it only progressing and getting worse?.. xD Nah.
I've asked about surgeries, which are tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and which have a very slim chance of actual success, yet a more probable risk that it might render me unable to use it at all.

It's just what happened, I know tons of artists who've drawn far more than I have in my life, and they're fine. Guess you could say I got dealt a bad hand, eh? xDD;

haha, well hopefully it won't get much worse, your still very talented and I think even though your hand might be bad you should still draw.

He looks more smooth and silvery in real life, but since it actually looks extremely like the original on paper, I'm /not/ complaining -- this poor scanner /has/ done a worse job before. XD Thanks for the comment on him. n__n

it looks like the scanner kinda made the whites like, glow a bit, or mebeh thats dA or my screen lol. but i know colored pencils dont do that so someone is to blame here! << ...>> lol XD

Actually, I used metallic silver pencils and white charcoal-chalk for the white. >3 I sort of like the glowy effect. In real life, if you tilt the paper under a light, the metallic parts are all shimmery, though. :3
