Just finished making these three. They were originally made for my alternate account, but later on I thought of a cool way to be more than just models of my other interests.Going from left to right we have: Malorie, the blond who is a bad girl. Sibyl, the smart and mostly mature leader. And Anika, the shy girl.
These three live in the future where Mars is colonized, and is caught in a dispute between human and sentient machines who want equality. Every now and then, these terrorist machines come in to cause chaos. And thats where these three come in.
Using the suits they have on, they can summon these special bots that can transform and attach to their bodies, giving them specialized enhancements. Almost like my own Magical Girl anime thing. They even have a cute robot dragon as their mascot.
Ideas for what these enhancing small bots will look like and do is still up for debate. And Xemera's Angles is so far the only name I have for them.

Definitely sounds like a show I would watch! Awesome work! If you're looking for a different name for the show, might I suggest "Mars Maidens" or -depending on how old the main characters are- "Auxiliary Teens".

Personally I'd go with something along the lines of the more animal-like Auxiliary Zords from Power Rangers: They look like a living thing outside of battle but when called to arms, reconfigure their robotic structure to became weapons and equipment for the greater good. Example: A wolf-like enhancing robot could have a tail with a razor-sharp tail but can rebuild itself into a gauntlet-ish device that covers the entire arm of the human partner with the head becoming a shoulder pad and the tail acting as a "Super sword". Or you could do a bird-like enhancing robot that becomes a jetack (an oldie but a goodie

Here are the categories i would suggest:
Melee (Close range combat boosts like claws or the blade gauntlet I mentioned and enhancements of physical attributes like durability, strength, or speed)
Hunter (Long range combat such as shurikens or laser arrows and tactical equipment like tripping balls, grappling hooks, or targeting system)
Terrain (Grants abilities connected to the natural world such as super digging, flight, or atmospheric adaptation)
and
Super (Essentially anything that doesn't fall into one of the other categories: Medical/repair capabilities, short-range teleportation, or technopathy)
Would any of these work?

Making comics isn't that different from what you're doing here already; it's literally just making small pictures that tell a story when viewed from left-to-right (or right-to-left if making a manga).

Really all you need to start is a story. To practice, try making a simple 4-panel comic depicting an interaction between two characters (It can be as simple them talking, with no change except their body language). Your style itself could be simplified too, if you so wished (chibi's are quicker and easier).
As far as an overarching narrative? Think in terms of episodes. You might have an ultimate ending scenario in mind, but you don't have to cross that bridge until you get to it.
If you want to get a bit more complex, I've found that OCT's (short for Original Character Tournaments) are great exercises for storytelling and character presentation.
Basically how they work is that a bunch of judges make a scenario for your character(s) to compete with other artists' in.
