Description Lately I've been thinking... I kinda had to for Philosophy, but ever since I started, it's begun destroying me from the start. Impossible questions like "Who am I?" are forever unanswered because I do not know what to base this on... Have you ever been able to answer it? Have you ever found an answer, then thought something was more fitting? Is it normal to  feel like you think, act, talk differently to others? Every day, people group up together and talk, like they have so much in similarity... If all humans are different, how can they come together like groups? How is it I feel alone in the world yet others are perfectly comfortable?
The other enquiry is ethics and morality. What do we want to do?
What is it that is right? What is it that is wrong?
Personally, I wish to make everyone in the world happy, fight for others that need it, help whoever, wherever, whenever, rid the world of darkness (including myself if need be). It is  said that that would be ethically correct, yet, do we not do this because... we... want... to do it? Is it that heroes only fight evil because they don't want it to exist? Is it because they just want to be heroes? Does this mean that they are corrupt and only do this for themselves and that the people they save are nothing to them? Do they fight because they want to fight, not because it's their "duty"? Does this mean that such ideals are nothing more than selfish wishes? They say that one only strives for self-interest, to be happy... I will only be happy when the world is satisfied...
Does this mean I am fighting for me... Or for the world?
Does this mean that... if I am following ideals similar to that of a hero... Would I be fighting for wrong reasons?

Am I... deceiving people?

Am I... deceiving myself?

True, but each of us carry something that makes us different from everyone else... I think that's what the soul is... Our essence or something :/
Talking of that, I think I tore half of it when I as 12 ^^"

Philosophy can be a never ending subject. There's always going to be more questions than answers, even if there is more than one answer to one question. We had a small philosophy segment in my reading class, and we all sat in a circle, and wrote a question; crumbled the paper and tossed it in the middle. And instead of answering the question, we expanded on it, and asked another question about the question that was asked.

Don't feel like a total ass, it's only human of us to question our existence; we are one of the very few creatures in the world with self awareness. But don't dwell on it either, you'll find your personal answers as time goes by.

Also remember, science has answers, philosophy often doesn't; at least that's what I've learned and personally think.

Yeah, bec uase there are just some answers they'll never find :/
And I hear that's what philosophy is about these days, to ask the questions, because it's easier than to find answers we may never discover.

XD So the total-assness was apparent? I'm just depressed to think that... if I helped everyone, it might be for the wrong reason... It feels like being a spoiled brat, 'cause I might be doing it because I wanted something from it... Not because I should do it as duty.

It's said science is just one way in looking at it, I wouldn't say you were wrong :3 But philosopher's call scientists and religious people gnorant because they think they know the answers and refuse to look further... Especially when there are things that defy the 'laws'

Lawl, pretty much so yeah x3 and sometimes a question is enough to mean an answer in my opinion

It's alright, sometimes I fear I'm being an ass, so I try to avoid it lol. Gah, and I think those kind of people exist in all the other subjects as well, where they think they are right and everyone else is wrong. xc Believe me, those kind of people are everywhere and I feel like punching every single one of them lol XD

It's a step in the right direction at least! :3 It feels better being able to answer them tho, I often "omgomgomgomgomgomgom MOAR questions to answer @_@"

lolol, but if we are just natural asses? :b XD
XD Unfortunately, as philosophical as we are, we have to allow them their opinion... :/ We cannot merely stoop to their level XD

Yep that is right x3 But we even have to allow opinions that we don't believe in either sometimes

Simple: All humans are hedonistic, even if the desire is just "I want to make others happy." Remember that everything you do, when it comes down to it, is because you wanted to.

Wait, I think I missed the point. xD

XemnasXY In reply to Dextear [2009-01-16 15:05:35 +0000 UTC]

): ...Yeah, but what hurts most is that when most people do the 'right thing', it is normally because they want something themselves...

So? What's wrong with that?

XemnasXY In reply to Dextear [2009-01-16 16:39:11 +0000 UTC]

I... don't know... *looks ashamed* In all honesty, I think I do things to feel good about myself, or so nobody doesn't criticize... How is that honest?
Isn't that just using people to make myself feel/look better? (I just found the root of all that rant)
I used to think people did nice things because that's what should be done... Not because they could take advantage and benefit...

Like I said before, at the center, it's always about your own pleasure. It doesn't make good acts wrong, or no longer good, it just means they're not as selfless as the romantics and religous of the world might say.

Of course, "good" is still subjective, so one man's idea of "good" will only be the same thing for any two people, unless they follow a doctrine of some sort.

I don't think there's anything wrong with questioning things like this from time to time. I used to do it a lot. But through my experience, I found most answers to my questions while living them, not dwelling on them. And everyone's answers are different in some way, because no one lives the exact same lives.

...It's somewhat reassuring to hear that someone else has done it... It proves that I am somewhat human (:
I think I might have known that :/ But I don't like wandering into the unknown...
And I agree about the lives part, they say that deep down, if you unravel all the little things you experience, we truly are all the same being :3

*chuckle* welcome to the world of the thinker, where the conventions of society blow away like old newspapers at the landfill to leave the contradictions exposed for all to see... regardless of any and all claims to the contrary 99% of human actions begin from a motive/expectation derived from one of the three basic instincts (food/survival/reproduction)... the game is to adjust your assumptions of those two factors until they make sense to the reality observed, regardless of how loudly the subconscious /society might scream "no, no, it can't be so!" Good luck.
