These projects are only getting better and better. You've made a full time watcher and fan out of me.

at the same time.

Oh, he looks so sad... and cold! I really like the shadows and the snow. The snow looks like it's coming down hard, adding to the mood of the picture.

Anyway, you did a nice job coloring. Hats off to as well. It's a very nice sketch!

On an entirely different note,

You submitted this deviation to the group

Oh my goodness... I can't stop staring at the group icon.

I kinda made it into two halves, the left side of a new beginning in a way, and
the right side of crooked Kremlin, symbolizing a less than perfect past. The color scheme
is set very specific however to make Russia look very out of place and detatched from
his surroundings. I only made the snow rain on the right because it was fun contrasting the whites
to the black on the tree branch, so I thought: what's stopping me from doing it to snow?

The tree branches are also inspired by the painting during the Renaissance times. The name
isn't coming to me right now but I believe it was painted on the Sistene chapel? Do you remember?

I love that group icon..check out this one -->

Oh gosh. We just went over a few things about the Renaissance. However, it was more the religious aspect, not the artistic. But we learned about how artists such as Michaelangelo (sp?) were commissioned by some of the popes during the Renaissance. I tried searching a few pictures. [link] and [link] I thought might have been close. Not really sure though, sorry.

Is that a duck with teeth in that icon?

[link] It's this painting, and the picture
itself has a lot of religious aspects of it, like the crosses up on the top right.

it's a pencil with a mean glare.

I hate when I can't think of as elaborate of a comment as I usually do...
...
Aha! FINally~ Found a Critique!

Okay, so after staring and staring so I could find something to comment on (besides LOVING the painterly bg and shadows...I love 'em!) I realized that anatomically speaking, I...am a bit iffy on the shape of his head/jaw. I noticed you used someone else's sketch, so I'm sure you just didn't realize it, but the back of his head should curve out more, not be as flat...but! It could just look odd because of the other thing...The jaw.
If you were to try to remove the scarf and draw the rest of the jaw, it would look rather...large? (considering all the other art I've seen of him, anyway. It'd look as though he has a square-jaw...like...one of those super-buff body-builders. XD)
If nothing else, open up the file and do a layer over everything and do a 'redline' to outline the skull (none of the details like hair/face, maybe lips, but just focus on the skull's shape~) and see if it looks right to you...I can't really tell from just looking at it, but that's what I see.
Other than that, the lineart and coloring and shading and bg all look amazing! o3o

Cmon, get those creative juices flowing.

I tried making the character look paintery too, but it always end up fading into the background so
I changed how I did it, and it worked! The results were quite satisfactory. yes, I have a major problem
with the fact that I make the jaw and head rather too large ALL the time in my anatomy. Curse me!
Drawing chibis too much got me stuck in a rut!

I'll definatly do that "redline" method the next time I ink. Thanks for the kind critique, it really
helps!

Aww, poor Ivan! Lemme give you a hug, hun. I must say you did a very good job coloring the lineart. I especially like the addition of the slightly pink tinge to his hair.

xenaferetek In reply to X-I-L2048 [2011-11-17 01:21:55 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I made the lineart myself too, so that's a really big compliment.

I'd appreciate it if you looked at it again, because I added some more details, like some lamp shadows because
I realized that I forgot to add them in!

X-I-L2048 In reply to xenaferetek [2011-11-17 01:40:49 +0000 UTC]

Uh... oops! Me bad. It must have been when I looked at the artist's comments and found

Well, that was quick! Looks a lot better now! (Not that it looked bad to begin with. ) I like the little dusting of snow on his hair and coat. That's a nice touch.

Thank you! I think i'll update it later too with the lamps being fixed, because someone
said they kinda look crooked at the ends.
