Description Mules are the result of breeding a male donkey and a female horse (the reverse results in a hinny). Mules have a bad reputation as being "stubborn" or "stupid", donkeys tend to be viewed in the same way, but in truth, both are intelligent, strong and enduring animals (stubbornness can actually be a good thing, however). The double helix (DNA) in the background along with the mule's red aura and reddish hue to his eyes are symbolic of a biological phenomenon called hybrid vigor (also called heterosis), where the offspring of two different species possesses more strength, stamina, etc. than the parents. Mules are often stronger than a horse or donkey of the same size (they can range from the size of a pony to the size of a draft horse like a Clydesdale, there is also a breed of large donkey called the mammoth donkey, which are commonly 14 to 16 hands tall) and are often more durable and have more stamina. However, none of this is to say that horses and donkeys cannot also be useful. The rough, rocky ground is symbolic of the mule's sure-footedness. Yes, mules can also have any colors or markings horses can have, hence why I decided to draw a black mule with white socks. And yes, mules have horse tails, not the tufted tails of donkeys. Done in pencils/colored pencils. Art by me. Do not use.
