The planet Gaia is a mysterious place in the universe, as on rare occasion, spacial distortions form around it that allows its inhabitants to see into, and even visit completely different worlds.
One such world to make an appearance in this manner was the Canopy Kingdom, a land recently scarred by war and nearly torn apart by a girl wielding the power of an artifact known as the Skull Heart.
The fearsome powers of the Skull Heart caught the eye of the Black Wave Army's leader, Darkeno ex Machinus , and he sought to invade the Kingdom with his forces, take control of the Skull Heart and crush anyone standing in his way.
The Dark Angel project was developed by the Black Wave as a means of creating a task force capable of standing up to the Skullgirl's might, and Iota was the latest and most powerful of all of them.
Designed to draw in and disarm enemies with her innocent, attractive appearance, Iota in her base form is surprisingly shy and polite to whomever she comes across. However, in battle, she and the other Dark Angels are capable of "Awakening" and temporarily going completely berserk, and Iota's Awakened Mode is a truly terrifying sight to behold...
Iota was among the first to enter the Canopy Kingdom, alongside her sisters, DA-4 "Andromeda" and DA-3 "Epsilon", with the directive of seeking out any information on the Skullgirl, and terminating anyone in the way...with extreme prejudice.
