nice analogy/prose, and i had no idea about the debate.
i also have no idea about stencils, aside from how to make them.
so i can't say much on the technical or execution aspects.
looks crisp enough for me to identify what it is, and for that i love it.

Any chance you have the file saved? I'm interested in this as a tattoo to compliment a Japanese ink style tattoo, and really like the flavor it has. Looking for something that is parallel, but not necessarily the exact same style and this is very poignant
