One day, in the East Blue, Belle, Nila, Leon, and Tarin came across an island known as Jackalope Island. Knowing fully well that they needed supplies, Belle volunteers to go ashore on her own and bring back groceries before sundown.

Her little shopping trip doesn't go as planned, however.

While in town, Belle runs into an old friend of hers: Roronoa Hanako, Zoro and Robin's son. It turns out that Hanako had left the Grand Line for reasons that will be revealed later in the story. He tells her that he has begun to hunt bounties for a living, and is currently looking for a man named "Diablo" Yamamoto, a crazed gunman wanted for 29,000,000 Berries. Belle strikes a deal with Hanako. If she can help him turn in Diablo, then Hanako will have to join her crew, which he accepts.

At first, Belle is happy to see her older brother figure, but then she starts to notice that Hanako isn't acting like he used to. He has become much more serious, and hardly laughs at her little jokes or antics anymore. Plus, he seems to have gotten colder, and he refuses to talk to Belle about what's going on back with Luffy and the others.

She decides to talk about it later.
