Asiatic Cheetah | VulnerableI'm really p*ssed off about the Chester Zoo website at the moment. It has barely ANY details about species on it nowadays and doesn't specify what subspecies their Cheetah's are! Arrrrghhh abdjfbgsbopoopoo

It's a bummer. It really is. I kind of hoped it was an Asiatic cheetah, so just in case anything happen to the cheetahs living in Iran (I sure hope not...), another zoo kept the critically endangered subspecies safe in captivity. However, that is not an Asiatic cheetah. It's a Northeast African cheetah from Sudan (Acinonyx jubatus soemmeringii). Asian cheetahs are paler and they have winter coats. But it's normal to believe it was an Asian cheetah. After all, the Northeast, the Asiatic and the South African species are closely related despite being completely distinct and distinguish from each other.

due to the fluffiness, i'd say it was an Asiatic. its so beautiful!
plus Asiatics have more black around their ears/ tear marks/ tail than African cheetahs. virtually no zoo labels the cheetah species, that is why there aren't 'any' Asiatics in captivity.
