Description World of Warcraft; The Secret to the Addiction.

World of Warcraft, or better known as simply WoW, is a massive online multiplayer adventure game that features fantasy realism and a row of abilities just as any mmorpg would. This is no regular mmorpg however. This game has captured the youth of america in its grasp for plenty of time now, turning even the jocks of today's society into full on computer nerds. But what makes this game so addicting?

I admit, I myself have played, and still play world of warcraft, but from my in-game observation, I've deducted quite a few things. The addiction doesn't come from the game so much, as it does from the people who play the game. A basic human desire is to be around other human beings. You may not realize this outwardly, or may even be considered an outsider amongst your peers, and you may like it that way! But no matter how you look at it, you require human confrontation for most things you do, be it simply watching television or talking on the phone. We all require to not be alone. It's a natural necessity to want to be near someone else, being completely isolated will lead to possibly a meltdown over long periods of time. You may not need direct confrontation, but your mind will need to connect with another to stay openly sane...

Addiction in WoW... Have you seen such addiction in a game by the playstation 2, or 3? Have you seen anyone actually kill theirselves over a game that they play on their nintendo concil or television? Even though a lot of playstation 3 games could be openly opinionated as 'better' then WoW, you will most likely never see someone addicted to them (Or at least addicted enough to kill themselves, like what happened with world of warcraft). Additionally, have you wondered why those games can get boring if you play them long enough, and yet it takes muhc longer to get bored off of WoW? It's because in most PS2 and 3 games, you do not interact with anyone. You are a simple character, interacting with fake-made up humans or robots or whatever that repeat the same thing if you talk to them multiple times. The more you play a game that doesn't involve human interaction, the more you desire to actually interact.

As I've stated before, it isn't the game WoW itself that is soo addicting. It's the people that play the game. Through my observations, WoW can seem like a home away from home for some people. It's an alternate world where things you wish could happen, happens! It's a place where you can find your best friend, and go complete a quest with him. The game is an open chat room, that people get so attached to, it begins to seem like their real life.

I carried out my first few days on WoW alone. I simply trekked along completing quest after quest, and began to get quite bored. That is, until I began running into other players. That's when it got exciting. I met a friend, then another, and another, and found myself staying on WoW FAR longer then I had before. For those of you who've played WoW before; I'm sure you've found yourself navigating far from your usual destination just to show someone a sight or to adventure with a friend. Traveling that far out of your way alone would not be as fun I'm sure. It's just another example of human interaction. I'm sure a lot of you may doubt the human interaction theory, and I don't blame you. I'm still working out the kinks as well, but all of you know, I am not stating my facts, I'm stating my guesses, suggestions, and opinions.

Thanks for reading. (I probably didn't say everything I intended to, but I was interupted. lol)
