Niiice. I always like the non-angelic kind of winged human. If you want a good name for them as a species, like Dwarves or Elves, Tengu works nicely. They're Japanese bird-folk, kinda like World of Warcraft Tauren, but unless you want to name them something along the lines of Angel or similar then that's about your only option because I've never been able to find another species of humans + wings.
That said, you might want to give him a spear or lance rather than a sword. The reach means that he can protect his wings during an attack and remain a bit further away from his opponents, which is useful when attacking a ground target as the lower you go the more power it takes to remain in flight when not gliding. Though a swooping motion might work, but still, a lance would make that easier and keep his wings out of reach.

Or, alternatively, you could use a word for"bird" from another language and use it as a root word to make up your own species, since Tengu are bird-goblin things with giant noses and their name is actually related to dogs.
