Description

Newly described theropod - cursorial tyrannosauroid Moros intrepidus from the Cenomanian of Utah. The oldest diagnosed tyrannosauroid from the Cretaceous of North America, it is described by a well-preserved leg and very characteristic teeth. Interestingly, the last allosauroid on the continent, the giant neovenatorid Siats meekerorum, is known from the same layers. The existence of a tyrannosauroid in these places was already assumed, and now we have a named taxon.

Leg of Moros demonstrates arctometatarsalia and, moreover, the proportions are very similar to ornithomimids rather than later tyrannosaurids. Obviously, it was a great runner, successfully catching up and killing small animals in the shade of a giant allosauroid. Curiously, phylogenetic analysis puts Moros next to Asian taxa, and that means it was an Asian migrant. Over time, Siats will disappear, and the descendants of Moros intrepidus justify this name - "fearless embodiment of impending doom."...

This individual is shown yawning at the time of standing on one leg, which turned out to be very birdlike, which I'm glad.Β Β I also liked how this hand turned out.

EDIT: Scanned version.

Technical pencil HB and white gel ink pen, 2019.

You do a really good job on drawing feathers! Maybe you submit a toutoril on how to draw them. Just a though...

Thank you! Well, maybe I'll try someday. In fact, filamentous feathers are easy enough to draw, and I do it pretty quickly.Β Β

Interesting! Moros is also one of my new favorite dinosaurs! This interpretation is probably the best one I’ve seen!

I'm happy to see another wonderful depiction of this tyrannosauroid. I'm surprised nobody has drawn it alongside Siats meekerorum yet however. I really love the texture on the face and the pose is quite adorable, I must say.

Sorry for the late response. Thank you very much! I think this could be an example. You might not like it very much (because of Siats's appearance). At least we have Julio Lacerda's artwork with Siats and some tyrannosauroids near it.Β

Yeah I really hate the clown Siats lol. I would prefer more realistic depictions like the one Julio Lacerda did.Β
