Strengths:
Dreameating: Elijah is actually slightly rude in the fact that he would much rather eat a being's normal dreams rather than nightmares, although as a dreameater his job is to eat the nightmares of those plagued by them. Of course, if he doesn't like someone, his penchant for eating more lighthearted dreams and leaving behind the nightmares could come in extremely helpful.
Dream Scent: Eli is able to smell when people are dreaming (watch out, class sleepers) and what they are dreaming about in particular.
Weaknesses:
Nightmare-Eating Side Effects: While Elijah is eating a person's dream or nightmare, Elijah experiences the same dream said being is having. While most dreams will not affect him, some could possibly have traumatic effects on his mentality.
Indulges: Unfortunately there is a particular type of dream he is very addicted to, and will often steal said dream from sleepers whether they like it or not. It causes him to get in trouble on several occasions (he probably needs an intervention :'I).
Personality:
While Eli is generally a very cheerful person, he doesn't normally express this physically to others. His expression is almost always a careful neutral, but don't let that fool you! Oftentimes the voice that comes out of his mouth is the complete opposite of what his face is saying. His eyes often give away how he is actually feeling. The only expression he is good at expressing is anger, but as he rarely becomes truly angry, that feat is about as rare as him turning his nose up at a unicorn-flavored dream.
Thanks to the nightmares he's eaten over the years, he is very easily frightened. He'll jump at pretty much anything that goes bump in the night. He is also, unfortunately, rather sadistic when it comes to beings he doesn't like. If someone gets in his way, he won't hesitate to make their lives (or sleep patterns) living hell.
Background:
Elijah's family came from Japan, although he himself was not born in the country. Instead, he was born in Scotland, given an English name, and raised learning both Japanese and English. Because he has never actually been to his parents' country, he has a mainly Scottish accent. His parents, like him, are Dreameaters.
When he was five, his mother attempted to eat a Nightmare that created a tragic mental effect on her. She became mentally ill, unable to recover from the effects of the dream. She went mentally crazy, and Elijah, in a fit of both fear and compassion for his mother, claimed that he would never eat a dream. To this day, he still gets nervous eating Nightmares in the fear that he will wind up in the same position as his mother, and only does it in extreme need. He and his father took care of her for many years, living in a small house in an equally small village in an attempt to keep her hidden from society. Elijah's mother grew better, but she would never be what she had used to be before. Still, Eli cared deeply for his mother, and no matter what had strong faith in her full recovery.
But when he was eleven, the promise that he had made to himself to never eat a dream came to an abrupt halt. He had been playing outside when he smelled it, a scent like black licorice coming from nearby. As he crept down the road, he noticed a young child that had fallen asleep, crying in her rest through a nightmare that plagued her. Eli was torn, but in the end, the little girl's nightmare was the first dream he ever ate, and gave him confidence that he was born, like his parents before him, for a reason, and it was to help people. Even if, in his mother's case, it went wrong.
He accepted himself as a Dreameater, continuing to care for his mother as he grew up. When he was eighteen, his father asked him to leave the house, telling him only that he needed to find his own place in the world. Eli reluctantly left, and a year later found himself in a small apartment that he had worked hard to rent for himself. Of course, this didn't last long, for not even a week after he moved in, he received a mysterious letter . . .
And as soon as he read it, he found himself at Crepuscule Estate.
