I was excited to see a new parrot eating the liquidambar seed pods out the front of my place. I had never seen this parrot before and wondered what it was? After a bit of research I found him ...
Alexandrine parakeet
Native to India, the Alexandrine parakeet is a usually green parrot with a distinctive red beak. It is a large parakeet, measuring 56 to 62 cm (22 to 24in) from the top of the head to the tip of the tail. It is named after Alexander the Great, and the Alexandrine parakeet was once a companion to only the highest nobility. (That's why he chose me to visit! I look quite noble! Lol Why are you laughing? lol)
It had obviously escaped from its owner. He hasn't come back to visit, but that hasn't stopped me from looking for him every day.

These are magnificent birds. Great capture. I hope he returns to his owner. Not sure if he can survive in the wild here.

He has lasted so far! I often hear him in the bush opposite Carolyn. He has a very distinctive call.

very nice story of Alexander the Great .. who was actually Alexander the foolhardy.. he ventured into the next garden to see if the food was better beautiful catch and bird❤️

Yes Lotus105, I had no idea what it was at first. Can you believe it? An Alexandrine parakeet! I was lucky it came back for a second visit the next day!

The red really stands out and the size of him made it easy to see. The beak is huge! But it was difficult to get a decent shot.

Oh it so good now it's the digital age, I first started out with 35mm so you had to take your 24 with caution then wait agonisingly to see if a handful were any good.
