Big BrotherA crooked smile lit your face;
In careless ways we spent our days.
Hearty laughs choked our throats
Between the times you weren’t on the boats.
Nights of chess and video games,
Or days of anime because we’re lame.
Bleach was ours, just you and I,
Oh big brother, how time flies.
Deployed, they sent you to Japan,
Time spent talking while on land.
Little sister, you told the guys,
As a glimmer would light your dark brown eyes.
You and I, as thick as thieves,
Your occasional visit was that of a summer breeze.
Time passed, months without your name,
But finally, the bad news came.
Big brother came and went
A happy life had now been spent.
Tears fall on little keys
Followed by inconsolable weeps.
Oh, big brother,
Why’d you go?
A snowboard took your life
And the snow took you low.
Still in shock, I can hardly breathe.
