So you recommend regular photo paper? I want my stickers to have a glossy surface.

yeah those work. Just note that if you're using that paper, if the sticker gets wet, the ink on it will change colour.

what paper would you recommend? I don't want to worry about ink running, but then i want them to be glossy if possible.

you can try printing on normal paper then overlaying a sheet of clear contact paper which would make it look glossy. problem is overtime the contact paper could peel off... i haven't made stickers in a looooong time and those 2 types of papers were what i used but of course they had their problems.

Please help me out..
I wanna create a vinyl-style-sticker that i can stick on say...bikes...
I'm creating these stickers on Photoshop...
How much dimension (canvas) should i be working on so that the stickers are crisp and not jagged at the curves?!

Alright on Photoshop, make a new file and change the units of the width/height to cm (from pixels) and the resolution to 300dpi (from 72) and voila! Make a mock sticker out of paper to measure its dimensions (cm) and plug it into photoshop.
You'll find that the canvas will be huge, but don't fret, this is to make sure it won't print pixelated!

oh this seems to be a nice alternative to printable sticker paper but the disadvantage is the size is very limited, i like it tho! and nice tutorial
im still wondering, does it add another shape onto the top so that it will be more resistent to water and such? i was able to find one of these for around 12 euro that must be around 10 dollars, is that a usual price for those?

xjessle In reply to Tropicanine [2011-06-27 05:52:14 +0000 UTC]
Ahh good question, no it actually doesn't add an extra layer, just adds the sticky stuff to the backside of the drawing/print outs. os yeah, thats a major downside to these stickers because when they get wet, the colours mix and change :/
(before i started to use photopaper to print my drawings to turn into stickers, I used plain paper which I then covered in clear contact paper to make it "water resistant" but it would inevitably peel off)
Yep, that's the usual price!

hm okay i have some water based varnish here that wont harm the permanent marker for my chrinky dinks, but it seems when i overpaint the paper with it the colors get all bleached and flocky. well i dont have a sticker maker yet, im just using double tape for the backside. maybe ill get one of these sticker makers later, or i probably decide to buy 20 sticker sheets, they cost 20 and you have to make them full since you can only print a sheet once before cutting hm but that sticker paper is transparent which could be pretty fun.xD i wished i had some mor ebucks left i would try both. i have loads of photo paper her ebut sadly my printer doestn seem to be strong enough to pull it in.. the shrinky plastic it does but not the photopaper.

Ah, thanks very much for this. I had seen the Xyron machines at craft stores, but there wasn't really a good description of how they work on the boxes. Now I know they're better than I was thinking--I thought you'd have to cut them out before and after the roll goes through. So glad to find this demonstration!

What's the difference between the permanent and repositionable refills? I'm about to buy a sticker maker but I don't know which refills to get..
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
xjessle In reply to yoko102308 [2010-03-24 07:49:28 +0000 UTC]
Permanent means that once you stick it on a surface, it won't easily peel off.
Repositionable on the other hand allows you to stick it a million times on different places XD
Personally I like repositionable.
