Description Just playing with some Photoshop CS2

Thought I'd give this old parchment / map process a try. Kinda cool and fun. Not bad for about 15 min of playing. I used mostly just a parchment or canvas texture/pattern, a map stock image, layer masks, the Selection and Burn/Dodge tools. I can come up with some uses for this method... like pirate treasure maps! Arrgh!

I'd like to make the the edges a bit sharper, as they look too blurred. I'm also trying to figure out how to make it look like the paper has depth; if you look at a torn piece of parchment, it actually seems to have layers. Not sure how to accomplish that.

UPDATE: I've had some people ask how I did this. Well, I don't really write the steps down when I'm playing with it trying to figure things out. And, I'm also horrible at remembering how I did it. I could save the history, but with trial-and-error photoshoping it could get very long and convoluted; not exactly in the exact step order. However, I did use methods I found from several tutorials around on DA and the web. I'll look them up and post them here.
Oooops. Guess I never did that...

Hi,

Thanks for the design, I intent to use it for photomanipulation on a tourism book cover. Is this fine?

Hey, sorry it took so long to reply; I haven't logged in in a while.

Since this comment is a year old, I'll assume you used it or used something else.

But it's open for anyone to use it for whatever they like.

I downloaded it and d it because I intend to use it in a photomanipulation. I found it looking for "Old map stock" so I hope it would be alright if I use it as stock ?
Please let me know. Anyway I intend to credit you as the creator even though I will probably use just a portion of it
Congratulations on your experiments, it really looks like and old map

Thanks. I still think I could do more with it, I just haven't taken the time to try.

Anyhow, nice work with the animated stamps!

Thank you I really appreciate your comment about the stamps.

About the map though, I think is perfect as it is, to be left as stock and each manipulator (as in my case) can add what is necessary for each work. Of course that is only "my humble opinion"

I've been getting a few 's on this recently. I guess I should do more of this kind? I'd like to do something a bit more intricate and stylized, too.

I love it - is there a tutorial out there that show exactly how to do this. I'd like to to the same but with the map of the real world (like the entire globe)

Hi, thanks.

Yes, I used methods found from a variety of tutorials. I don't have that list right now, but I will try and traack some down and update the Deviation and post the links.
