Description
Chapter 1
I licked my lips as the lifeless corpse hit the ground. I looked around the dark forest, searching for any apposing threat. There wasn't one, so I picked up the now-pale body. I clawed the ground to create a hold big enough for the body. I thrust the corpse into the hole and hastily buried it, not leaving any traces that the ground had been moved. I then picked up a large heavy boulder, as easy as a human would pick up a bag of sugar, and put it over the ground where the body was, in a natural looking position. No-one will find her now! I thought.
Suddenly the sun burst through the closely-packed trees. My skin started to lightly smoke where the sun hit. The smell of burning flesh filled the woods. I quickly darted into the safe shadows and stated sprinting through the trees, keeping away from the threatening rays of the morning sun. I finally came to the entrance to my cavern, a well-hidden hole in the ground. I could see the floor of my cave, a good 5 meters down. No matter how many times I go into my cave, I always feel nervous when jumping down into it. I stepped into mid-air and saw the ground coming towards me. I landed in a graceful crouch, threw my backpack out of my hand onto the muddy ground, and made a slow 360˚ turn. Taking in the common surrounding of my sort-of home.
In one corner I had a fully packed bookshelf, full of stolen books from the town bookshops and library. I also had my battered backpack strewn on the floor, my clothes were in neat piles on the floor, near one sort-of wall. I also had a large flat rock, with a thick black blanket on. Finally I had a notepad and a pen which I use to keep a diary, which I keep on a rock which I use as a chair. I never get too much furniture, or make myself at home to much, seen as I have to move sometimes, if people discover too much about me. Or if they find out what I am.
I walked elegantly over to my notebook and opened the pale pink, glittery cover. I flipped the pages, full of my neat, joined-up handwriting, until I found a crisp white blank page. I sat crossed legs on a medium sized rock I use as a stool and reached out beside me to pick up my matching pink, glittery fountain pen.
July 17th 2010, I wrote,
Dear Diary,
I got up today when the sun finally crept over the horizon and disappeared, and darkness fell in its absence. I took a huge leap out of my hidden cavern, into the gloomy forest, and set of into town. I got lucky, there was a homeless man asleep in a dark, alley. He smelt of stale beer and dirt. He had long, messy, greying hair which fell to his hunched up shoulders. I grabbed him by the him by the arm and felt him shudder at my cold touch. I ran him into the dark cover of the forest and bit him before he could make a sound. I dumped him at the other side of the forest
On my way back to town, I grabbed my backpack from my cavern. I ran back into town , sneaking on the rooftops, so I was not seen. I came to the trap door on the roof of my favourite book shop in town, and in one swift movement I punched through the lock. I slipped through the mess of the door and found myself in the upstairs of the library. I rushed around, picking up books from different shelves as I went. Once I had an almost-full back pack I went back to the trap door and onto the rooftops. I ran a little further into town and found a lone girl walking along the night streets. I was still hungry, I hopped off the the roof, ran, and bit the girls neck. I drank her dry and when i was finished I ran across the rooftops and buried her in the forest on the way back to my cavern. That was all I could do because the deadly sun rose, so I ran back to my cave.
Love,
Ashlyn x
I closed my diary and stood up, I was starting to get tired and the sun would still be out for another 10 hours. I walked over to my makeshift bed, as slow as a human would. I slipped into my blanket and closed my eyes, I was still a little bit human, I have to sleep. I closed my eyes and waited for me to slip into unconsciousness.
In my dreams I dreamt about myself, when I was first changed into what I am. I remember opening my eyes, I could see everything. I could see every brick of the alley, every single little bit of mud on the floor. There was some empty beer cans, and empty crisp packets. I breathed in a shocked gasp, I could taste the air, I could see my breath swirl like smoke in the cold night. I took a long smell, I could smell the few drops of stale beer still left in the cans, I could smell something that smelled like rust, blood, I realised. I listened carefully and I hear a heartbeat pounding and someone breathing. There was a human nearby, and it smelled good. I used all my senses, I listened, I smelt, I looked. I found the fragile human, stumbling around, quite obviously drunk. I bit it, it tasted amazing to my thirsty tongue. Then I realised what I was doing. I was hunting. I was a vampire.
