Description I took this an hour ago. Was snappin away during dinner from the balcony, been stormy all day. So I was taking the clouds at F8, 1/30s and was like, "huh?! i don't have the flash on?!" and then i looked at the viewfinder and realised lighting had just struck, the first bolt that evening... by complete chance I fired the shutter at the same instant! I have the biggest smile on my face cos I think that flukey things are the greatest.

So wanted to share this raw image. Will do something with it later, got a panorama.

Have a great day!

hmmm.. it HAS been mega stormy lately hasn't it??

i do like this alot.. the colour of the clouds, and that tiny lil lightning bolt down the back are such an odd mix and yet look so good together. the sunrise yesterday was about that colour for a while.. just the whole sky was a kind of reddy colour then turned orange and then yellow before the sun finally came up.. i was going to take photos of it, but i was too lazy to get out of bed... (it WAS five in the morning after all)

anyway. enough of my rambling. awesome picture!!

good to hear from u. yeah it was so lucky, i don't know how lighting is usually photographed, this is my first lighting shot ever. I always assumed a long exposure is used and some estimation as to the timing of the strikes. What camera do you have? can u use turn off auto focus to get a faster response? Wow you've got godray clouds yay im comin over for a look! its almost 10pm now in Sydney, Australia.
