Personally I highlight some important points:

1 color choice that almost cover the face is excellent (looks much better in blue); although small gray areas remaining after selecting them with the "magic wand" Photoshop should've also painted blue.

2- Shines left cheek (which is covered with fabric) and its outer edge, and the edge of the hole of the nose should have a more orange color and not white as they have; would be better (the same goes shoulder / Trapeze).

3- there are some shadows and highlights that should be softer and faded, but the most important is what has been said.

The colors in your painting are much more vivid, but I like how you painted; It looks better and is more striking.

In any case, it seems like a photo at first glance; Beauty paint.

Congratulations, great work!

First of all, a hearty happy birthday shout to you, Christina, wishing you continuing flashes of inspiration, many moments of grace in your life and creative production throughout the year ahead. I have nothing more to add to the previous critique, than to say that this is a dramatic study of light, shadow and the thoughtful balance of complementary color. This is most exemplified by the interplay between the blue of her eye and the lace, the red in her lips and the scattering of red shadow. Of course your mastery of your chosen media is stunning.
Best regards,
Ed

I truly love this piece.
I think the lace is incredible and we can feel the depth of it.
We can also feel the curves of her face by the way you made the shadows through the lace.
I think that the color of her eye and the lace makes a great balance. We can just imagine a mediterranean beauty!
For the overall impact, I think this works out great. No doubt in my mind that this is a sensual drawing with a good taste of femininity.
Thank you for taking the time to post this.

How does this polymer film work?? Β Is that why there is such crazy depth?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

XRlS In reply to akfinucan [2016-05-08 14:30:32 +0000 UTC]

acrylic mediums (either fluid, gel or effect mediums) from Liquitex or Golden (i use both brands) achieve several results. I use mine to seal the previous layer and protect and improve the next on top of that or simply to get a specific required texture as a base. (i.e you will use a pastel ground medium to achieve the tooth required on your paper so to help the pastel powder adhere better so you wont need much of a fixative spray in the end )

I think the "crazy depth" (you made my day with these words ) is only a result of my colors though Β

You don't by any chance make time lapse videos or anything Β ? Β I don't want to steal your style. But I would love to learn how to create such a rich deep portriat.(you turn a dull but beautiful photo into such a bright vivid portrait) I'm the opposite haha.Β
I wasn't sure if the polymer was something like the 3d paintings people do with the layers of epoxy in between paint Β  Β
I'm learning as I go. I'm super happy I got a response. Usually skills of your caliber mean the artist is a bit to occupied to reply to all the fans.Β
Thanks so much. Β  Β  For the response and for making this world a bit more beautiful! Β

I have uploaded small videos at my Facebook page, not time lapse though, but I do intend on starting doing them too soon πŸ‘πŸ»
You can steal my style for sure but for this to happen you need firstly my eyes (and not my hands as you might have thought) because art has to do with skills at 10% but it has to do with vision at 90%. (to put it simply I paint what my eyes perceive as real and not vice versa)

I'm learning as I go too this is the joy of art,we experiment,we make mistakes,we learn from our mistakes,we try again and again until we touch this blared state of mind we call perfection. πŸ€”
(Gonna tell u a secret i do try to reply to all people usually I manage this successfully other times less successfully πŸ˜”)

Thank you for the so kind words my friend!🌺

thank you so much Miranda for such lovely words
this is why i love art, it is the safest way to "exchange" a huge flow of inspiration, i know how this feels, to me it happens all the time with specific artists you can only imagine how happy it makes me to be able to do that to other people myself.
you have a wonderful gallery there, i adore your vivid colors (obviously i adore vivid colors, period ) and you are doing so damn well with portraits! Good job!!
