This is what I mean by "an excuse to have my characters cosplay" btw. The real reason I made this is because I am watching "Kancolle", an f2p browser game turned anime about girls inhabited by the spirits of WW2 warships. Bizarre, but too silly/adorable to ignore for someone like me who likes history and tanks and ships and stuff.
Hannah is dressed as Atago, a girl with the spirit of a heavy cruiser with the catchphrase/battle-cry "ta da!" Though she is not really a main character, Hannah fits the bill for her perfectly. This is the reference picture I used: img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20…

Ayane is dressed as Yamato, Japan's legendary super-massive battleship. She plays a bigger roll than Atago, but still is not a main character. Most of the main characters in the show are cruisers and destroyers who basically all wear variations of Japanese school uniforms, which I felt wouldn't be as interesting. After making this, I suspect that the boot things Ayane is wearing were added specifically for this purpose, since they are a dead ringer for the ones that Yamato and others in the show wear when they have their equipment on
