Yep.. they are called "tabi" and are traditional Japanese socks, meant to be worn with "geta" sandals.

Actually, they're not really meant for GETA sandals. They're made for Zori and martial arts. [Ie, tabi boots] Men don't usually wear socks with them. They're called GETA because of the clack sound they make when they're walked in. Original GETA sandals aren't too "Lady-like." I guess women could wear them but its strange. XD There are geta sandals designed for women though, the ones with heals which are traditionally worn with kimonos. [Like the ones in this stock] Though many women prefer Zori. GETA sandals are basically sandals with a heal. Tabi socks where made mainly for wearing with zori [flat sandals] though they are worn with thonged footwear so you're not overly wrong. And GETA are actually any footwear with a heal. [link] "As geta are usually worn only with yukata or other informal Japanese clothes or Western clothes, there is no need to wear socks. Ordinary people wear at least slightly more formal zori when wearing special toe socks called tabi." Though...geisha wear special GETA with tabi socks that go with their hanao. I felt complused to say it. Sorry XD
