As of volume 6, Salem is virtually unbeatable in combat and cannot be destroyed. If Ruby masters her silver eyes, has the support of her team, has the help of Jaune, Nora, and Ren, has the support of at least 1 maiden, and has Ozpin helping her, then maybe Ruby can keep Salem at bay for several minutes. Whatever plan they have will have to work in the brief time that Ruby can distract Salem. Ruby could still give the most awesome fight ever seen in the series, but it would have to be just to buy time, there can be no victory in strength.

He's got to be. Why would Salem say "I can't wait to watch you burn" to someone who was already dead? I see that as confirmation that he's alive and I refuse to believe anything else!

No clue what they're actually going to do, but I'd prefer it if Ruby beat Salem while Jaune takes down Cinder. Pyrrha must be avenged!

For me it seems like Salem is expecting the silver eyes warrior Ruby. Jaune meanwhile has vast potential we have seen only a glimpse of, just like in Dragon Ball Z with Gohan.

Jaune will almost certainly be instrumental in Salem's overall defeat, but I'm betting that Ruby will be the one to finish the fight. It seems likely to me thay Salem has some sort of history with Summer Rose, and I really want to see that evolve into an epic final confrontation. Like I said, I'd really prefer it if Jaune were to be the one to fight Cinder. If anyone deserve the honor if avenging Pyrrha, it's him.
Random Side note: I only know about Dragon Ball from what I've heard, but didn't Gohan's potential end up basically being washed out after the Cell Saga? From there Goku went back to taking center stage right? Again, only saying what I remember hearing, so sorry if I got that wrong.
