Barbuda is an island in northern Caribbean, 25 miles north of Antigua.
It is a flat, well wooded coral island dominated by the large lagoon.
It forms a special autonomous department of Antigua and Barbuda.
Area: 160 sq km
Pop : 1.800 (5.000 live on Antigua)
Barbuda was against the independence in 1981, and only after a compromise promising them substantial autonomy
agreed to accede to the new country of Antigua and Barbuda. Secessionist sentiment is still quite strong here.
