Bundelkhand, known in ancient times as Chedi Kingdom-Bundeli, got its name from Bundela Rajputs
which is the historical and geographic region of Central India, divided now between the states
of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, with larger portion lying in the latter.
Since last 50 years there is a movement for separation of Bundelkhand State.
The people of Bundelkhand, although rich in minerals, are very poor and backward because of no
representation in the state and central politics.
The Bundelkhand Mukti Morcha and Bundelkhand Ekikrit parties are two leading forces demanding the statehood.
