Description Val D'Ossola

Wiki[link]

Val D'Ossola is an area of northwestern Italy situated north of Lago Maggiore in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola in the Region of Piedmont.
The name is, most likely, derived from the Celtic "hoch hill" ("high lands").

In 1944, with the Allied forces nearby, the Italians partisans staged an uprising behind the German lines, led by the Committee of National Liberation of Upper Italy.
This rebellion led to the establishment of a number of provisional partisan governments throughout northern Italy, of which the republic of Ossola was the most important.

It received recognition from Switzerland...
Within a few months German reinforcements had crushed the uprising and the area's liberation had to wait until the final offensives of 1945.

Padanian Lega Nord is relatively strong in Val d'Ossola and garners considerable support in the elections.
