I like this background Very nice work. I have never used a tablet and I was wondering how easy it is to get into it. I think you did a beautiful job! Love the subject

well... the start is quite easy! Its very comfortable to work with... just plug it in and its ready to go. To find out the finesse takes more time...but its fun along that road I still feel I discover new things with each new drawing.

Heya! I faved this yesterday. I was going to comment and leave advice at the time but it was getting really late, so I came back to do it today.

Firstly - for a first ever tablet/digital piece, this is brilliant. The detail you've put into his eyes, jewellery, and the texture of the background, are all great. You've even handled the black skin/white hair issue (which usually makes colouring Drow a bit of a problem). You've picked exactly the right shades of grey to make the skin work, in particular - not so dark that his facial features have become lost in his face, nor so light that his skin doesn't look black enough.

If you wanted some advice, though, I'd recommend giving his skin a similar level of shading to the background - the background looks a bit more 3D than he does. I'd suggest adding some extra highlights and shadows to his skin - make the extra highlights smaller, and a lighter colour, than the highlights currently on it, and put them on the bits of him that stick out most/are most illuminated, and make the extra shadows darker and smaller, and put them on the bits of him that would barely be illuminated at all. Don't be afraid to go really light with the extra highlights and really dark with the extra shadows - provided you keep them small, they won't make him look too light or too dark.

Thanks for this comment! Advise is very very welcome since I just started doing this digital stuff. I definitely will keep it in mind for my next works. Stop by any time if you like. You are right about the skin, probably the most difficult part of the Drow

Bizarrely I find their skin easier to do than the hair, because from my experience it's actually pretty easy to shade dark things effectively, but very pale things are difficult to shade while keeping their pale-ness intact.

Ok I have to ask Exactly what is a Drow? I see pics of them but never understood what they were.

a Drow...pfew... that will be a long story^^ best to search it online, its on wikipedia. The word Drow is found in some sort of fairy myth as I recall but the Drows you find around here are based on AD&D where they started out as the black skinned bad to the bone evil elves that were only legends. Later, I believe in forgotten realms, They are what they now are. The smallest elves, dark skinned, very light to white haired with violet, reddish eyes. Very good with magic and they hate the sunlight. Their most important deity is lolth. she is depicted as a black widow. Well...much more to tell but I think these are the headlines^^ oh..they live in underdark...before I forget For now the most famous drow is Drizzt Do'Urden. I must say I like them a lot to draw. I'ts always a challenge to get their shape and skincolor right^^
