Udo surveyed the land with his keen and knowing gaze. They would be coming for her, to know what she knows, to speak to those only she can speak to. They would take him from her, and she would be sightless to the now... so she could see what had already been and what was to come. She was terrified, and oh so sad. For she was merely the whisperer when her vision bird was gone. Her life at their mercies. And so, Udo watched...

The whisperers keep vision birds, large strange looking creatures who are connected mentally to their owner. Whisperers have no eyes, and they rely on the bird to allow them to see. While they are connected with their bird, they see only the present as if looking through normal eyes. Remove their bird and they are sightless, open connections which can forsee the future and speak to the dead.
