My eyes slowly flickered open, reviling a blurry figure looming over me. As my sight adjusted, I saw one small, if rather plump, lady with long grey hair, and a pair of spectacles. She had a weird hat on. "Hello there, Kaya" she said with a smile on her lips. Kaya? Who is Kaya? In fact, who am I? I thought. I just shook my head, partly to clear my vision, partly to indicate I didn't understand.
"You probably don't remember me, young one, but I am your Auntie, Helga." She came to the side of the…bed I'd guess you'd call it that I was lying on. She had a flowing maroon dress and a green shawl with blue jewels lining it. She grabbed my arm and helped me sit up, her eyes staring into mine.
"Speak," she said.
"Why?"
"There. That wasn't hard, was it?" she asked. I started at her, my face in a pout; I felt she was patronizing me. Can I go now? I said to myself, looking around the dark cavern I was in. Hmm….underground, nice (!) I thought. It seemed that we were in some sort of underground basement, deep below the surface. Sticks of wood with glowing embers lined the walls, and the floor was rich brown and earthy. I sniffed the air, then being overcome by the smell of damp, soil and fresh cut grass. The lady, Helga, looked at me, smiling as I stared at the place.
"It's okay that you don't remember anything. Yet. You have been reborn, dear Kaya. You died in a battle, but we need you, Kaya, so we have given you the gift of life." She explained, as I looked at her with bulging eyes. Reborn? Died in a battle? Needs me? Ha, not likely. Crazy old lady. I said to myself. I shook my head, and lept down from the hard wood bed. My bare feet sunk into the ground, the soil rising in-between my toes. It felt…odd, but I liked it. I was just about to take off when a hand grabbed my arm, I slammed me back onto the wood, my head feeling dizzy.
"You can't go, Kaya, there is much to discuss. Come." She said, and ordered a man to drag me, kicking and screaming, after her. He pushed me onto a hard wooden stool, in front of a desk that Helga was seated behind. She leant forward, her hands entwined and eyes sparkling with excitement.
"Do you remember anything, Kaya? Anything before your rebirth?" she said, and I shook my head.
"Hmm, well, you will do in time. Now, let us fill you in. The world we live in is not all it seems. It is filled with magic and evil to those that seek it. All of us here, in this cavern, have the gift of magic, and so do you, Kaya. But there are those who want battle against us, who disagree with our practise. An ancient bunch, the malium cult. They believe in evil, and that their lord, Adrian, should rule. They seek out to bring our ways down, as we protect all humans. It does not look good for us. The cult is much stronger, much larger than our kind. But there was a secret, one that would bring the malium's crashing down. The secret tells of the place were a weapon, or knowledge can be found. On the 11th day of the 11th month, a child was born, with that secret. It was only known to her, and she could not breathe word of it. But she knew of the object that could win this mighty battle, and set off with her army to find the place of legend. But on their way, they were attacked by the Cult, and she died, fighting for us. That child was you, Kaya. You know the secret." She looked expectantly at me, her face glowing. I looked back. Then I burst out laughing. I couldn't contain the raucous of giggles spilling out of my mouth, and the end I fell of the stool, clutching my stomach. She frowned. "What's so funny? I am being serious. That was the honest truth" she said, disappointedly. I stopped laughing, and stared at her. The truth? I know something to stop a battle?
