He's not sexist, he's just not allowed to create strong female characters it's literally in his contract, because Shonen's primary demographic is young boys and they stupidly think that adding strong female characters would decrease their popularity. Then again their are alot of manga in Japan that depict boys as being useless spineless and pathetic so it even's out in a stupid way.

P.S. Calling Kishimoto sexist and then making Tsunade look like a hooker does not make you ironic it makes you stupid.

I think he's sexist too. But then again, no one is going to pay attention to that fact as long as there's explosions going off and masculine catch phrases flying.

Love the concept of your pic, I'm actually a fan of both of them so i like how you incorporated the both of them.

You use Copics? Very great technique, I'm such a spazz when it comes to coloring, but yours is so clean.

Jiraiya was originally slated to be the fifth Hokage; Tsunade was probably considered [and only after Jiraiya refused] do simply to lineage and political clout. Tsunade is among the most powerful female characters...but she plays a support role and her style of fighting revolves around dodging. Her speed seems lacking in this regard. Making her strength almost redundant.

Kishimoto does seem misogynistic. All the females he has portrayed to be competent for the most part have been villains. An example would be Konan. She quickly became one of my favorite female characters seeing that she was capable not because of her particular skills but the way she was able to plan a fight. Case and point being her showdown with Tobi. It was unfortunate that she lost.

In regards to Naruto hogging the action... I am actually glad he is actually being competent for once. He is showing a lot more maturity and foresight in his battles then he has previously. His Kyuubi-avatar mode is overwhelming but not unstoppable. Personally I am waiting for Sasuke to immediately make Naruto the underdog again. Because it will happen. The series has shown that for every increase in Naruto's strength...Sasuke must also develop.

Also the other guys did get their time to shine or at least Team Shikamaru did. It would be great if we had some more screen time of other teams--sure, but it seems Kishimoto is trying to wrap up this arc and is speeding it. I and a lot of other like-minded people are wanting this manga to be over. We like the manga but we have seen a sharp decline in the manga's plotline since after the Rescue Gaara Arc.

If I where to rank the Sannin as who was strongest and who was weakest. Jiraiya < Orochimaru < Tsunade. Tsunade was the weakest. This is assuming that they fought each other at their best at full power. Tsunade has strength and her Genesis Rebirth. That's about it. Orochimaru is quick, slippery and cunning with a larger arsenal of techniques [forbidden or not] and Jiraiya has Sage Mode which puts him a head over either. However, when we take their personalities and their legend. Snake beats Toad, Slug beats Snake and Toad beats Slug. This was presumably what it was suppose to be. Jiraiya could not bring himself to dispose of Orochimaru, Tsunade was just too weak and Orochimaru was the only one capable of killing his heart to do it [if he had to but he wasn't exactly a cuddly one].

(In regards to why Kishimoto has so few female characters...also the target market is boys.)He also admitted early on that he wasn't particularly good at drawing females. Given his weakness, making them show up constantly would be daunting.

I could go on forever... but summarizing everything. Tsunade plays a supporting role, her strengths lies in her ability to heal others and increase the chances of survival. Same with Sakura. Sakura only beat Sasori because Chiyo was there to play back-up and control Sakura's movements like a real-life human puppet. The lowly ninjas where Zetsu clones. (I don't understand why they would need to be protected from just two...that I agree with but Sakura taking out a Kage is a longshot. A fight between the current Kage's would undoubtedly end in the Raikage's Favor. Tsunade would be quickly dismantled by his speed, Gaara' would presumably be too slow as well. Onoki couldnt really get into a fight... so the most challenging would probably be the Mizukage who's combination of steam and lava techniques could cause the Raikage to second-think of moving too close. However one must notice that some would be stronger than another given their basic stats and fighting capabilities.

Also...wait a bit. With the resurrection of Madara...Sasuke possessing the Eternal Mangekyou and Tobi with the combination of Eternal Mangekyou and Rin'negan should put a stop to the "juggernaut" that is Naruto. None of the diseased Kage's he has strong-armed to be completely honest. (Except Muu, who was already fighting Gaara and the Oonoki.) What Naruto has been defeating has been mostly clones or through his overpowered Rasenshuriken...which since inception has been a killing machine. Personally I thought this arc was one of the better one's so far...as Naruto is actually playing the protagonist and not someone in the sideline.

If you disagree with any of this...that's okay. We are all entitled to our own opinions. You could find stories in Fanfiction or via some other site or this one where the females play stronger roles. I have read them before. (I stopped reading them soon after...on my defense, the females didn't play a stronger role...they were Mary-Sues. I am also turned away by stories were a male lead is a Gary Stu...read them too and quickly read something else. I like conflict and actually enjoying a fight...and not a one-sided guy beating on another. I enjoy greatly when the ninja's actually...behave like ninjas and use subterfuge to win their fights.)

So... I agree Kishimoto seems misogynistic. (sexist) Minato hasn't really played a big outlandish part yet. (He is mostly used as a comparison in regards to his speed.) I do enjoy Naruto for once "pwning"...even if they are mostly just clones. (All the ex-Kage's haven't been at full strength when Naruto fought them.*Note that they do reconstruct if they are destroyed however their chakra does seem to decrease...as shown by Muu having to wait to summon Madara. Another note, Naruto hasn't beat any of the big name's completely by himself. Using other's as support or diversions. Namely he is fighting SMART.)

I think its more because Minato was just plain better than her, they were alive during the same time period, and you have to remember-Tsunade is actually 100+ years old. How can you call him sexist when he has a 100 year old lady that looks like she's 20 and is rediculously physically strong, as well as dominant over every single guy in the show? Also, it's hard for anyone living in the shadow of somebody former when they were a great person, for example, Minato is the one who sealed away the 9 tailed jinchuriki, one of only /two/ people in the entire world (of the show) that could even think of combatting the 9 tails, and even he couldn't control it all, only a fraction. Hardly sexist at all.

Love this--deffinately don't get enough pictures of Tsunade looking so powerful and not just like some creepy pin-up girl (what's with those pics?).

I personally don't see Kishimoto as being sexist since a) Tsunade has gotten as much air time within the manga as Minato (the strong male character which you referenced), Jiraiya (supposedly her equal), and Hiruzen (the only other Hokage heavily referenced within the story who is also male). The fact is that while perhaps as either a world-class medic OR a Kage she might be placed on the front lines in a pinch, in real world combat scenarios you will never, EVER find either the president (or Military Dictator, who would be a close aproximation of a Kage) or your best field medic involved in a direct combat situation.
In fact, in a real world situation it would be considered not only completely stupid but a criminal act to put a world leader and a world class medic on the front lines because place in war is determined not only by training but by worth.

A trained and talented fighter who is also a world leader and world class medic would be consider barred from front line combat because their life carries signifigant weight--more significant than either a world leader or a world class medic or a trained and talented fighter when considered seperately. This fact of war is somewhat sad (as are most facts of the reality of war), but nonetheless true.

I think that it is more your interpretation that her place within the story and this latest war shows sexist undertones--not to say that that is the WRONG interpretation to have, because you will read and interperet everything differently than I do, or anyone else does for that matter. The Minato "hype" is just that: hype created by the fans which only shows that he is a more popular character, not a more 'important' character.

This is not to say that your opinion is wrong or stupid, but merely that I interperate her lack of time spent on the front lines very differently based on my real life experience with military combat. As a strong female, I am a huge supporter of strong female characters. I wouldn't appreciate Naruto's need to defend all female characters as though they were weak, except that the way I see it he does not have a gender bias (because he feels the need to defend all of his friends, and pretty much everyone, reguardless of gender), he pretty much behaves like every other somewhat-naive teenaged guy I've ever encountered (especially those in the military), and he actively and rutinely (cannot spell this word for the life of me, sheesh) acknowledges the strength of his female friends.

In the end, however, all of this is simply my own seperate interpretation of a work of which I am a fan. I still think your piece is beautiful and well executed!

That's all I remember especially part of the Title coloring day, can you link me to some possibly potential pictures that I'm talking about, it was on the main page a long time ago and I would really like it in my favorites can you find some for me please? I feel the same way. The girls if they get ANY spotlight are given like half ass badassery, buckle under pressure, can't go through with it, or straight up weak and have to lean on men. I'm a guy and frankly I am tired of it. Very nice pic anyway though

I agree. The two kages, Raikage & Hokage, were just sitting and talking about stuff and barely seen in the last few chapters. Sheesh, at least we know Mei is fighting somewhere.

Well i love tsunade. If it werent for her sakura would be useless. But she made sakura very strong. I love tsunade because of how tragic her past was.. I teared up when i had to see her lover die along with her brother and pretty much everyone else.
