I would have to agree, it's not a bad design or anything, but the colours are harsh.

No, but I think they should dim them a bit. It may (if it already hasn't) end up on terrible ponies. The colours are fine, they just need to be de-saturated a bit because they hurt my eyes. Also, if you were to put this character in the background of the actual show, people would direct their attention to THAT instead. It needs to be able to fit i to the show nicely for it to be okay looking.

people ALREADY direct their eyes to the small grey mare with yellow mane and amber eyes in the background of MLP. There is SEVERAL background characters who are pretty bright and people don't message Hasbro to change THAT character. And i personally, i don't think someone should criticize the freaking colours just because the colours are 'too bright and hurt my eyes'. Do you criticize Derpy just because her eyes are looking in two different directions?

That's different. You HAVE to LOOK for Derpy, she blends in well. People LOOK for her because they WANT TO. If you were to slap this character into the show, you would instantly notice it because it doesn't fit nicely into the show's pastel colours.

because you have no business judging it's colours. For me, if the artist likes their work, nobody else opinions matter. Simple as that. Negative comments tell the artist "Go die in a fucking hole!", "Never draw again!" I'm standing up for the artist.

While I did personally like the old hairstyle a lot, I like this overall design much more. He looks cooler! (Not to mention more masculine.)

Looks nice, but I agree with *InsaneKitteh , he looks like he's blue then slowly turns purple.
Perhaps use a lighter shade of purple? Now, you don't have to of course, but for me, it hurt my eyes trying to focus them on one colour instead of it looking like a gradient.
Other than that, good job, he looks very nice.
