I had a dream where, in a nutshell, Discord played a prank and struck Rainbow Dash as she was flying.

I think you need to strike a medium of where to go with your art. While Applejack's hair texture is amazing, it contrasts greatly (in a bad way) with the simple tail texture, and the furs of both of them.
And I don't know of the rough edges. I guess that is your choice.
The pose of Blitz and the expressions are both very good though, and Blitz's hair is awesome. I think his tail looks more like someone broke it than a lightning though.

I think its because its easier to envision them realizing they have feelings for each other if Dash was genderbent to Blitz for a while.
Its not that they don't have a lot of chemistry with AppleDash regardless of gender, its just that we see Applejack as traditional, and Rainbow Dash and Applejack have been friends and rivals for so long, something has to be thrown in with a wrench between them to realize it may be something more.
Blitz's swag might be a big enough trigger for Applejack to realize she's in love.

Shipping is enjoyable when there are interesting characters with unique personalities. How they would react to each other in different what-if stories makes us appreciate the characters all the more.
Of course, in the situation of Dash becoming Blitz, it might become a love triangle. Especially when you consider the answer to this question...
Which one of Rainbow Dash's friends has both admiration and healthy friction for Rainbow Dash, tends to admire people with near romantic devotion, and has NO experience in boys? (keep in mind that I don't ship this, but its still pretty much assured this might happen in a Dash turned Blitz)
