It's true - somewhere in their history, at least the 'lizzard hips' lineage of dinos evolved form quills and pins genes maybe the early feathers, whom reasons for are a part of debates remaining. It was at first for keeping warm in colder climate and sexual selection at least, someting like this.. and a lineage slowly evolved into lighter shapes perhaps, able to glide, becoming what we would know as *birds* nowaday. Yes, they are the heirs of dinos.
Some peoples still have some issues with it, and in a way, Jurasic Park play actually with it (in universe, the dinos they made are more 'mutants', tailored deliberatly to the old school idea of what 'should be dinos', not as close as thjey would be). Or something. But it's a certainity, and in a way, it looks cool if you ask me...
I myself have an idea in the notes of 'Dinosauroids', humanoids dinos, feathers and all to make a change... something akin both to lizards and birds in a way.
(On a related note, Dinos are not reptiles actually, more like in a way 'super reptiles', subtile details set them as something else... the feathers yes, but also the way their limbs are and they walks (upstanding or on four, more swiftly than reptiles), they may have started as warm blooded or became it soon early,etc... they have the same distant ancestors who appeared from one branche of the 'therapods' who appeared in the Age of AMphibians, the other branch being 'mamalian lizards' who arer distant ancestors of us in a similar way)
