Silverpelt sparkled over Tawnypelt's head. The stars glittered more bright than usual, and a light breeze carried swiftly through Sunningrocks. There was one thing missing in Tawnypelt's heart: Feathertail.
The two she-cats were great friends from the start, but Tawnypelt began to have unusual feelings for the silver warrior now. The tortoise-shell cat wondered if it was okay for both female cats to love each other. Especially when they're both from different Clans. Tawnypelt shook away the feeling and sorrow filled her eyes. She wished Feathertail would come out and be with her, but it was too late.
And would Brambleclaw, Tawnypelt's brother, be mad if Feathertail was at Sunningrocks too? Originally, Sunningrocks belonged to Riverclan, but they gave it to Thunderclan. Firestar had agreed with Brambleclaw if Tawnypelt could go to Sunningrocks whenever, but only her.
She padded off the rocks and decided she wanted to go see Feathertail. It would be weird, going on to Riverclan territory like this. But they probably wouldn't suspect anything, if it was just Tawnypelt and her need to see Feathertail. She looked from across the river, and scented a faint smell of Riverclan cats from earlier; an evening patrol, she thought.
Tawnypelt squinted her eyes, trying to see if Feathertail was out there, or any other cats. No one was outside the camp. They're probably all sleeping by now, she told herself.
The she-cat was near the edge to the river now, and hesitated. Should she really go across the river? Perhaps there is a shortcut, no? Oh well. Tawnypelt braced herself, and jumped lightly into the river. It was shallow, to her surprise. Probably due to the nice greenleaf the forest was having. The tortoiseshell swam swiftly across the river, and jumped out on to the side. She was now near the camp, and shook her wet pelt. She paced towards the camp. She let out a purr of joy. I hope Leopardstar isn't angry with me if she comes out, Tawnypelt thought.
She waited for a cat to scent her and come up to question her being here. It had seemed like a moon she's been waiting. "That's it," she hissed. "I'm gonna have to invade." Tawnypelt crept silently into the camp, and saw the warriors' den. She knew she couldn't just go in a den and wake up a cat; she wanted to mean no harm.
She sat up, waiting for a cat again. She heard pawsteps approaching. She looked to her side and saw Leopardstar in front of her.
"What are you doing here and why?" she demanded. Tawnypelt was surprised by her calm, demanding tone. Normally Leopardstar wouldn't seem friendly if another Clan cat invaded the camp, but she must've been tired. "I am looking for Feathertail," she admitted. Leopardstar yawned, baring her sharp teeth. Stretching, she murmured, "All right."
Tawnypelt waited as Leopardstar went to go get Feathertail. "Okay. Feathertail, when you scent a new fresh patrol trace, you come back here. Got it? As in, when you scent a morning patrol," the golden spotted tabby instructed. Feathertail nodded, and she and Tawnypelt went out of the camp.
"Why do you need me?" Feathertail asked, curiousity filling her eyes. "I just...was lonely," Tawnypelt mewed, trying to sound honest. The silver she-cat cocked her head to the side. "You sure? Seemed like somethin' else was bugging you," she meowed. Tawnypelt looked down at her paws. "What's wrong?" Feathertail asked worriedly. "Feathertail," Tawnypelt looked at her, "would you judge two she-cats if they loved each other?" Feathertail looked confused, but then a glint of amusement shone in her blue eyes. "Of course not!" she exclaimed. "Love is love." Tawnypelt felt anxious once again, and her fur prickled. "Why do you ask? Do you feel that way?" Feathertail steadied her gaze on her. It felt as if she had just read Tawnypelt's mind. She whimpered and nodded. Feathertail jerked her head away slightly, but then came to stand normally beside Tawnypelt again. She rested her muzzle on her head. "Let me guess: you feel that way.. about me?" she guessed, letting out a little mrrow of laughter. "Yeah," Tawnypelt answered, looking into the sky. "I understand," Feathertail nodded. Tawnypelt flicked her ears and stared at her. "You...you're not mad?" she looked surprised. "No, silly," the silver she-cat mewed. "Why would I ever be mad? You're too sweet to hate!" she nuzzled into Tawnypelt's flank. A warm glow of affection stirred in the tortoiseshell's mind, and she mewed, "You are too."
