Description
He sits on the front porch, leaning against the rail. He looks oddly in place there, his skin still glowing despite the wrinkles, whilst his black hair had turned silver. His cerulean eyes still held the twinkle in them, as they did years before.
He turns his eyes away from the sunrise, his gaze falling upon the woman to his side. She's just stepped outside, knowing she'd find him here. Her grey eyes were still youthful, even as her height had faltered, her skin withered, and her hair turned whiter than snow. She placed her thin, frail hands around his arm, smiling up at him as his lips turned upward in the most breathtaking grin she'd ever seen.
She fell in love with his grin every time it appeared on his face, more beautiful than ever each time.
Her heart still fluttered as she leaned her head upon his shoulder, and she could feel his breathing slow to a more relaxing pace.
He was restless. She knew. He still felt there were things left undone in his life.
And yet, every time she came around, he forgot that. His heart would calm, his thoughts vanish, and every ounce of his very being would be focused on her, and only her.
And she loved that about him.
They smiled at each other for another moment, before they both turned back to the rising flame in the now colourful sky.
"It's as lovely as ever..." she mumbled, feeling at ease as long as he was by her side.
"Mhmm," he responded, a certain truthfulness in his voice, "But only because I get to spend yet another day with you."
