Illendra went through the motions. Like all Arglwydd Amsers, she followed her Boss loyally. Did her duties, protecting time from itself and the free will of humans. She made sure events happened in many time lines, had companions come and go, all of it. It was an average life for her kind. And she was satisfied with that.
Until Boss called Illendra for a duty that would change everything.
Thousands of clicks ago, the deity of curses allowed a doozy of a curse to be created. Allowed a dead mortal to possess a sword. To put her angry claws in many lost mortals in a misguided attempt at justice. It was annoying to weave time around her. But, an opening showed itself to rid the world of the sword forever when the spirit suddenly got a new wielder. But, there was a catch.
Illendra would have to go to the wielder and befriend him. Eventually, he would end her life. However, her final moments would cause the boy to question the ways of the spirit. And, eventually, destroy the sword.
Boss asked the world of Illendra. Boss asked Illendra to die. In order to save hundreds if not thousands of future souls.
Illendra.... felt lost and confused. Hurt. Scared. Lonely. Like no one in the world knew what she was going through in her grief.
She heard rumors in her spiral. Rumors of another Arglwydd Amser. One who rebelled against the rule of Boss.
His name was Gwendolyn . He had his trust and loyalty betrayed by Boss for a fate that did not even need to happen. Illendra told Gwendolyn her story, and asked what she should do. Unfortunately, Gwendolyn saw no way out that was favorable for anyone. It wasn't fair, and wasn't right, but Gwendolyn told her that she had to die.
But not right away. Gwendolyn offered her a chance to live before her death. They were lords of time. She could delay her fate and let Illendra see and do everything she wanted before she had to die. He even offered to accompany her for the first trip.
One trip turned to two. Then three. Then ten. Then more. They grew close. Illendra knew it was foolish allowing him to get close and love her (she knew. how could she not? it was obvious.) when she was doomed to die.
Eventually, she could delay no more. And she left for her fate. Befriended the boy (legitimately. he was kind and easy to get along with for a murderer). Planted the seeds for him to want to kill her for her crimes. And, in the heat of an argument, asked him what right he had deciding who lived and who died. Part of that, somewhere in her soul, was for Boss. The boy impailed her and fled. In every time line, she fell......
Except in one time line she grabbed the handle of the cursed blade.
Extra:
- Like all Arglwydd Amsers, Illendra is intersex
- Illendra was close to Hitchcock , the oldest of all Arglwydd Amsers. Hitchcock is the only one who knows the truth of Illendra's fate. Not even Boss knows.
- Before all this, Illendra's biggest assignment was comparably small. She can't even remember it now.
- It's very much not a good idea for Illendra to go back and show she's alive. For, she only lived in one time line. Gwendolyn held her as she died in most of them. And even Boss thinks she's dead. Illendra lays low these days, with a magical disguise. Hitchcock visits her and updates her on things. It's her one connection to her past life.
- Illendra also never saw Covah again. It definitely would not be a good idea to show herself to the man who thought he killed her.
