Description
What a long day it has been. I mean, I woke up to no family, sketchy neighborhood, seeing my neighbor Glen turned into a hideous monster, then saved by Mel, who took me to Norwell where he killed more monsters, than to be knocked out unconscious by a frying pan, courtesy of my old friend Liz. We now were carrying Mel up the drama room ramp that lead to the stage. All the boys came together to help. Of course there was Ulli and I, then Devin. Devin was a short stubby kind a guy, nearly bald head, but all around good guy. He was an amazing kick boxer. Not such a good flirter though. Just trust me on this one. Then there was Alex, Just a little taller than me, had ginger hair touching his shoulders. I only knew him for a few months, he was a very shy guy at first, but once he gets to know you, he is a pretty fun guy. Then of course there was Hayden. Wild black hair, socks and sandals, his ginormous bag with all of his art supplies, and his wicked sense of humour. and not wicked like clever, wicked like, reevaluating your life after a joke of his! okay not that extreme, they were pretty random though!
Then there were the girls who were helping, but kinda freaking out over the sudden
commotion. Liz, who I already introduced, was pulling out the couch from the props room. The couch was an ugly one that looked like it was last used in the 70’s. Sandy was also helping her. Dark hair, very pretty. She was in my gym class, she was always my badminton partner. Then, Mrs. Babcock, our drama teacher, who was a woman in her early 40s, was going to the back of the room behind her desk looking for the first aid kit. Her desk was an absolute mess, filled with tests that will probably be forever ungraded. Those kids should consider themselves lucky. While Mrs. Babcock was looking for the First Aid Kit, Rose decided to help. She was one of those “faint of the heart” kind of people. It was better for her not to look at an unconscious man. Rose was a short teenager, barely hitting five feet tall. (Do not tell her that though, she will angrily exclaim how she is now “over five feet,”) She was also ginger. (Do not call her ginger either) Maybe more strawberry blonde, I don’t know! Anyways there was one more girl. Lily. As I mentioned she was beautiful. Lily had those blue eyes, dirty blonde hair, unique sense of style. It was not all her looks though, she was just, soo cool? I do not know how to describe it. We did have a thing a few years back, but didn’t work out. . We have been great friends ever since, and I have been trying to get her back too. I tried to move on, but it was almost impossible to me. When I saw her just now, time slowed down, she was alive. I could not ask for anything more at this moment. We shared a look. I nearly dropped Mel to hug her. She looked a little reluctant at first, but gave in. It was that hug that made me forget about everything, and I am no expert, but I think the same went for her too.
To make it not awkward for the both of us, I hugged Rose right after, Rose and I have always been friends, but I don’t think we could ever date. It was nice to see her though. After Mel was laid down, and it was confirmed that he was breathing, We all sat in the middle of the drama room in a circle. Mrs. Babcock enthusiastically started the conversation. “Soo Jake! I thought something horrible happened to you when you did not show up on the first day of the outbreak, How the hell are you here now!?” I then proceeded to explain exactly what happened. Woke up, No one home, Mel stabbed my neighbour, drove here, went through the zombie filled halls, got to the drama room, and witness Mel get knocked out by a frying pan. Liz then did a comical “Sorry about that.” Ulli then questioned “Why a frying pan” Liz smiled and whispered “I watch Tangled all the time” We all laughed. Kinda enraged the Walkers outside the class. I then asked “Wait, some of you do not even take drama, how did you know this place had survivors?” Mrs. Babcock then proceeded to say “I sent a last minute announcement, risked my life for it.” Ulli then interjected and said “Shouldn't there be more than 7 students here? What about the teachers?” Before she answered it dawned on me.Mrs. Babcock was the first adult I saw that was not one of those… things. Mrs Babcock answered Ulli, “That is all that came, the school was already over run, the teachers I have no idea. Just Gone.” “What about the rest of your drama class?” I asked. Hayden, Devin, Liz, Lily and Rose were all from that class, but this was a class of 20. She replied “Some went home, some joined me on the journey, I only made it back” A tear went down her face. It was all quiet. We dispersed.
I caught up with the boys for a bit, when Liz approached me. “Hey Jacob, we are going on a run tomorrow to pick up more supplies we are starting to run low on food, especially since we gained three more BOYS” She smirked. “Are you asking me to join?” I said. Liz nodded , she also invited Ulli. 10 AM the next day. We all decided to get some sleep. I climbed up on some set pieces backstage to get to the top of this wooden platform. I was almost asleep when I heard a whisper. “You could not even believe how relieved I was when you walked into the room.” It was Lily. “My heart stopped” I replied. “I tried so hard to keep it all in. I barely know anyone in this room. No family, I don’t know where my best friend Vivian is, and I thought you were dead.” She sniffled. “I am here now” I said as quietly as I could. She kissed me on the cheek, and went to sleep beside me. I tell you, I stayed awake all night. I am sure the first of many all nighters in this twisted world, but this was for a special reason. I was just soo happy. The next morning came. Alex, Liz, Sandy, Devin, Ulli and I were ready to exit the drama room. We were all geared up with costumes from the props room, we looked silly, but ready. Before we left, We heard someone fall off a couch, Mel awoke.
