Description ~*When darkness falls, graves lie vacant to put you deep below the land.*~

I have decided to submit this to the contest called "When Darkness Falls" [link]

Zoom in for the best vision and to see all the details!!!
---
This photomanipulation is made with photoshop out of photos from my last two summer holidays. All stock is mine.
In the end it took me a whole day. I'd say that It's my best and most atmospheric photomanipulation so far.
---
Here is a quick walkthorugh of what I did:
I took the photo of the tree and the general scene a year ago on a campsite in Croatia.
The sky is hand-edited.
The "sun" is a flashlight on makro.
The red symbol and the "dark magic" are hand painted such as the signature in the lower right hand corner.
The checkered floor was on a churchyard in Mali Losinj, Croatia.
The altar - or gravestone is made out of three different images: The altar itsself which I found in a chapel in Split, Croatia, the picture of the woman which hung in my room in an austrian inn and the "blood-texture" which originally has been a rusty metal surface.
And the grave's walls were some houses in Split.
I did some more than that (adding some of my textures, shadows, etc.) but those were the most important steps to create this.

If you'd like to have some of these stock images, tell me and I'll upload them for you to use.

UPDATE: I did an alternative edit of this - it's brighter and the red is stronger: [link]

The colour scheme is brilliant and really contrasts nicely ^^

Thanks! Everyone likes the colours of this one and so do I
I worked with similar color shemes before and it always looked quite nice to me ^^ Red in the mid-tones and darker parts and a light yellow in the brighter parts. Some blueish green in the tree and generally a saturation not too high. Always a great colour concept

Thanks alot for the fave on it!

This is a very nice piece. It really creates a creepy and haunting atmosphere, and creates a story. However, though the dark atmosphere is charming, it's very hard to see many details of the work and it gets hard to focus. I suggest adding a brighter red contrast to help the viewer see the details. Other than that, this picture is very well done, it's just very hard to see what exactly the picture portrays and it's details. Excellent, Keep up the good work

Thank you very much for the insight. Could you be a little more specific about the "Brighter red contrast" that you suggested? Do you mean like higher saturation of the red tones? Brighter red tones? An overall higher contrast in the image? sorry for not getting it
If you could please take the time to tell me what you meant by that, I'd be happy to try that out and use that knowledge in further artworks.

Well, there seems to be a colour of red that's prominent within the piece. I think making that colour more visible (in anyway you choose, so maybe higher saturation or contrast) it would show more details in the picture, as much of it is dark right now and difficult to see. I hope I explained myself well enough D: It's more a matter of experimenting with the colour and brightness.

I actually remember doing what you described with this picture when it was still in basic development. I made two versions back then, one being brighter and with stronger red tones and one being like this. I asked a good friend which version he liked more and he said that this one looked better cause he could see more variations. However I did a little edit of the finished work. Here's a sta.sh link to it: [link] Hope things are clearer for you on that edition.

I like it. I compared the side by side, and I like the brightness of the newer one. I feel like it's much easier on the yes to see. However, this is all just my opinion. You should do what you feel is right, because in the end, it is your art.

I asked a friend and he said pretty much the same thing. THat it still has a dark mood while having a better vision. I'll ask some more people and if they say so too I'll update the deviation. Thank you very much for your tips

Thanks ^^ Most of the sky was actually made with a painted stock image. So, yeah that's quite the compliment
