A character submission for ~maxmao and steven 's Kazahana Mass Family battle project!

More information can be found here: [link]

About pic: I didn't upload a deviation for some time so I thought I would make this one look prettier by adding a background. It's good to play around with Photoshop again.

Anyway, the nice looking picture with houses and hills is a picture of Hagensdorf, a village in Germany, which is supposedly this character's home town. I kinda just copied a picture of it and enhanced the 'quaint' look a little.

Lineart: Pencil
Coloured in: Photoshop 7.0 and Photoshop Elements
Time: Maybe about 3 hours... I dunno...

His bio is down here.

The first of the 'Kazahana Royale' I will present is:
Schatten Kazahana (change the name if you want; it's definately not the best name for him)

Who: Is a Half German and Half Japanese who's in his late twenties. He is known discreetly to be the best at stealing things and so he is also known as the 'King of Thieves'. What he mostly steals now these days is information but he's good at other things too. He is highly paid by private and rich clients all around the world on a monthly basis and his task is to find out anything that would be 'useful' and steal it without anyone else knowing (if possible, a replica of the object will be used to keep trouble at bay). His VERY few friends, who are mostly informers, are his main source of info for goods that can be stolen.

Life Story:
His mother was a respectable and attractive woman in Hagensdorf until she got herself seduced by a kazahana playboy. Soon after, he left her and so she had to fend for herself. She and her son Schatten live in a small solitary cottage in the outskirts of the village because that was the only thing they can afford. Schatten's mom made souvenirs for a living but she isn't paid very well. Because of this, Schatten had to resort to stealing to make sure that there is food on the table since he isn't old enough to be accepted to work. He took extra care with every theft because if he was found out, he would cause grief to his mother who's still trying to recover from the loss of her honour.

One day, as he was returning home with the day's dinner. He found the cottage on fire and is already collapsing. It turns out that some rich troublemakers came bursting in and then they taunted his mother since she is of a lower class than them. She was so offended that she slapped one of them. This angered them and so they slammed her into the wall to make her unconscious and decided to burn the house down. He saw them laughing as they made they're way back home. Since they were on the very edge of town where there was nobody else around for at least 50km and it took a while for someone to notice the smoke, the fire brigade came too late.

After the fire brigade left and a refusal to come with them to the police department, he made a grave for his mother under a tree nearby since they were too poor to even afford a place in the cemetery. Schatten didn't see much point in killing those trouble makers but he still wanted to make life a little difficult for them. So he framed them for breaking into police department by stealing some of the police's best weapons and hiding it in their car. They are now under heavy charges for disrupting the peace, murder and theft. It didn't seem much but it was enough to quench his anger.

He left Hagensdorf and stopped at a city where he stayed until he's 14. His skills in thieving improved vastly as there were many military securities around. One day, he noticed someone breaking in to the most secured building in the place. He waited until that person got out and noticed that he put an envelope into his inner coat pocket. The building's security system didn't even go off. Impressed, Schatten ran off to try and steal that envelope off him. Eventually, he succeeded. The man was shocked to discover that the envelope had been stolen off him by a 14 year old kid. Because Schatten proved himself to be talented, he wasn't killed. And so this thief took Schatten in and became his mentor until he was 19. That was when his mentor finally retired wealthy and left Schatten to go off on his own. Unlike his mentor, Schatten developed a special way to defend himself (see Weapons/Skills) against those who are protecting his target and also against his co-workers who are mostly greedy (and sometimes backstabbing) assassins who would rather have all the profit to themselves. He is now very successful in what he does (and rich) but he chooses to donate most of his income to charity instead.

Personality: Despite his unhappy background he's a pretty nice guy and he doesn't like killing people and would very much prefer to help instead. He rarely takes revenge. He's also incredibly calm and if anyone tries to anger him in order to cloud his judgement, they would have failed. Although he doesn't get angry, he can get annoyed. Is loyal only to his friends. He has the tendency to run away from/during a fight at times but only because:
a) He’s not going to bother about finishing the fight
b) He has more important things to do
c) Its part of a strategy he’s using.

Weapon/Skills: Usually, his weapons can be consisted of anything with an edge (e.g. paper, cards, rocks, knives) and pieces of clothing aren't a bad thing either. (E.g. suffocating, tying up people)

But what makes him REALLY dangerous is his stealing skills, his intellect and his speed. He is able to steal his opponent’s weapons and/or skills. His strength and stamina are only above average but the speed in his movement and his thinking make up for that. He’s probably able to use his opponent’s skill faster than they can and use it more strategically than them as well. His speed also serves him well for dodging and running away.

Why he entered: He wants to know who and what his father is and this battle is his best bet to find answers.

Long Term: He might drop out of the battle after some fights and just continue to watch the battle till the end in the hope that his father will show up.

But because of his nature, he might interfere even after he surrenders...
