You know for me, a piece of work is something that I have to feel, in order to express... I remember sketching Bob Marley a few years back, and before I could make the sketch happen, I had to walk around with this expression on my face for a couple of weeks, and really feel this feeling... The expression was something that was close to my heart, The expresion was felt like tears...
This was and still is a very positive way of working.
In this picture, ' Back to Life ' I can feel this..
Thank you for the view.

Oops a million apologies, and yes in did SISTA, no matter the color, we brothers and sisters in the art world, that's what it matters right. Plus your art reflects a lot about the Black Culture, and I think that's beautiful.
Many Blessings

This is excellent and also a very good likeness. I get the feeling from this that he is a very intense person (in a good way).

Hey Yamenja, nice job !
I recognised Jazzie B straight away even before I saw his name, Nice old school style refference there with the title back to life. Back to reality being the next line to the song and a metaphoric reference to the style used, realism and reality.
some nice gesteral strokes going on with the pastels, the purples and blue shades really come through as well to assist with the shading. In looking at this work what i noticed was his skin tone, being a black man you would have thought there would have been the use of lots of browns hues like burnt umbers, sienna etc.. but in fact its quite the opposite with reds, blues, purples and whites in the ranges, very good use of colour.
good work

Thank you so much, Simon. This is such encouraging feedback.
It's great that you recognised him. I liked the title because I haven't painted for a few weeks, and it felt great to do some again, it made me feel more alive - as for the realism - it scares the hell out of me, but a part of me does seem to want to attempt it, haha.
It amazes me the way you and Denis can pick up on details in technique and colour that I would not expect from anyone. You are absolutely right about the colours - I didnt use any browns or earthy shades at all. That's why your positive comments mean so much to me really, because you can see right into what I did and how I did it. I feel quite honoured.
