“You brat! You went through my garbage again!”

Pain flared from his head as an older man hit him there with a wooden stick, not at all caring that it was an orphaned, homeless, and starving child that he was hitting all for rummaging around his trash in search for even a scrap of food to quell his hunger.

“Go back to the slums you piece of trash!!”

The white-haired child could only clutch his aching stomach as he was subjected to such cruelty, tears pouring out his eyes as he endured the pain, knowing that if he fought back he would beaten much more severely.

“Hey! Go pick on someone your own size, you big meanie!”

Huh?

Feeling the beating stop all of a sudden along with the arrival of a new voice, he lifted his head up to see what was currently transpiring at the moment.

Emerald Green orbs zoomed in on a small figure standing not that far from where he was, defiant (Eye Color) eyes glaring at the older man who had previously been beating him.

“And who the hell are you supposed to be, you nosy brat?!”

Uh-oh, he could see the way the older male tightened his hold on his stick, as if preparing to use it once more but on another child instead. One that was innocent, albeit stupid for butting in even though he was thankful that it distracted the beating he was getting.

“Mind your own goddamn business, you stupid foreigner. Che, no matter what country they came from brats are always the same. In need of some discipline”

Although you may have been just a child and no match for a grown male, it didn’t mean you were just going to stand by and watch as he hurt some innocent boy!

You honestly expected to see better treatment towards less fortunate people in a country as this which was a first-world one by no means, but it seems as if you were sorely mistaken.

After leaving your hotel room to give out food to some of the people here who didn’t have the means to buy their own and do some exploring as well, you stumbled upon a sight that made even someone as young as you furrow your eyebrows and frown disgust.

A full grown man hitting a boy who wasn’t much older than you with a stick of all things and if you heard correctly, it was all because he was looking for something to eat! That just made your temper flare up at the sheer injustice and cruelty of the act.

“Mister, you do know that hitting kids is illegal, right? I can report you to the police and they’ll lock you up for doing this”

Surprised? Well, let’s just say that your parents were quite overprotective in their own way and taught you many useful things, what with you having a penchant for getting in trouble all the time.

Not really appreciating your words, the man’s eye twitched as he slowly tapped the stick against the palm of his left hand, walking closer to you like a predator closing in on its prey.

“You know what I hate more than nosy brats? Know-It-Alls who don’t know when to shut up!!”

Holding up his weapon, he swung it downwards towards your head, fully intending to hit you and cause bodily harm upon your small and fragile body.

You of course didn’t intend to just stand there and let him hit you, having gotten some prior training from your muscleman of a father on how to at least defend yourself, but before you could move away and perhaps kick the man on the shin you found yourself being tackled away by a white blur.

ⓣⓗⓘⓢⓘⓢⓐⓡⓐⓝⓓⓞⓜⓛⓘⓝⓔⓑⓡⓔⓐⓚⓔⓡⓟⓛⓔⓐⓢⓔⓓⓞⓝⓣⓜⓘⓝⓓⓘⓣ

Yup, that kid was stupid enough to not only intervene and stick her nose into something that she wasn’t part of, but she was also that idiotic as to go and pick a fight with a man twice her size and with a weapon as well.

He could have just taken the time to escape already and find some other place to look for food, but maybe it was his conscience tugging him to do the right thing or maybe he was an idiot as well, because before he knew it he found his body moving on its own accord.

The white-haired boy tackled the girl out of harm’s way, the both of them tumbling along the ground and ending up in a small heap not that far from where the man was standing.

“Feh, I got no time to waste on some snot-nosed brats. You’re lucky that I’m in a good mood today, because if not then I’ll have taught you some manners already”

He felt like praising whatever god was up there and watching over them at the moment, because he’d managed to avoid another beating now that the man was going back to his home. Apparently he had too much of a good mood to ruin it on them.

Sitting up from his position on the ground, the orphan sighed in relief, wincing however when he used his hands to prop himself up due to several wounds on his hands that he’d gotten from trying to protect his head from being hit earlier. Oh well, they’ll heal later anyway like they always do.

It seems that he’d forgotten his other companion however, because at the sound of groaning from beside him, he whipped his head in surprise only to see the kid he’d saved rubbing a small bump that formed on her forehead.

She must have gotten it when I tackled her to the ground--

“Thank you for saving me!”

Little (Name) pouted as she rubbed the bump on her forehead, knowing that she’d need some ice for it later. But anyhow, this wasn’t the right time to think about herself, because she still needed to thank the person she was intending to help only to be helped by them instead.

“Thank you for saving me!” Pearly white teeth was revealed as she thanked the boy who had the courage to save her even though she had it under control and was about to kick the guy’s family jewels earlier from her would be attacker.

It seems that she’d done something wrong in thanking him however, because her savior seemed to freeze at her words for several moments, as if he couldn’t believe that he’d just been thanked for doing a heroic act.

Blinking in curiosity, the (Hair Color)-haired girl waved her hand in front of the tanned boy’s face to catch his attention, “Hey, are okay? Did I say something wrong?” Furrowing her eyebrows, she continued to gaze confusedly at her companion as she waited for an answer for his weird behavior.

“…..You must be a special kind of stupid to go against a guy twice your size, aren’t you?”

The moment those words left his lips, recognition flashed in her (Eye Color) orbs as her small body launched itself forward against his. Arms wrapped around the boy’s waist as she literally gave him a bear hug, never mind the fact that they were both on the ground yet again.

“Kaa-san and Tou-san said that I probably won’t find you until I’m old enough, but I always knew that I’d find you soon! Although your first words to me are kinda rude, it doesn’t erase the fact that we were meant to meet”

“E-Eh?”

For the second time that day, the white-haired boy was left speechless, wondering what the hell just happened and if this was some kind of dream or hallucination he was having, because he hasn’t eaten properly in days.

Grinning, (Name) got off of the boy she was currently lying on and stood up, dusting dirt off of her clothes before holding her hand out for him to take and hauling him up when he took it after several moments of just staring at her hand.

The little girl placed a hand on her right arm and lifted the sleeve up, showing the very same words he had first directed at her just moments ago imprinted onto her skin, “Hello soulmate! It’s nice to finally meet you!”

And here he resigned himself to a fate of never meeting his soulmate and if he perhaps did find her, he wouldn’t allow himself the luxury of making a place within her life. Looks like fate had other plans for him.
