It's really hard to pick a favorite character from Utena, but Nanami is definitely in my top 3. I love her personality, her development, her weird quirks, and her design. XDRelated content

They really did a lot with her character in the Anime. Sure, she was mostly filler at first, but I really started to sympathize with her, especially towards the end of the series.

Who doesn't love the kitten in a box episode? She's so awful and so pathetic at the same time, you just can't help but sympathize.

Nanami was never my favorite, considering she wasn't really mentioned in the manga and the anime made her a pretty big bitch, but the egg episode made me like her, just a bit. And, I have to admit, her character design IS pretty damn amazing, even if it is too Kill Bill for me.
You do very well with the realistic style, and I like that you keep true to the character's personality while adding your own touches.~ Good job. <3

Fantastic work! It would be too easy for someone to view the majority of your work and say that all you did was homages to Genndy Tartovsky... I love your versatility. And while Nanami may not be one of my favorite characters, I do think that you've done her justice here, capturing the essence of her personality. Wonderful!

The irony is that in the manga, Nanami is barely in it. Utena and Miki are wandering around Touga's office and she notices a picture frame with the two of them in it and she asks, "Who's that?" "Oh, that Nanami, Touga's little sister!" "She's cute!" And that it. That's all they ever mention of her. XD The anime was what gave her her bitchy personality, big-brother complex (yikes) and "animal magnatism" (why is she always being attacked by animals!?)
Fun fact: The anime was also responsible for developing Kozue's bitchy personality too, making her the campus ho' and frighteningly possessive of Miki. In the manga, she's still a tomboy and is clingy to Miki, but not to the extent of the anime (whoa nelly)
For anyone that has a hard time keeping up with the anime; don't watch the movie! I get the impression that whoever made the movie was like "Plot? Who needs plot! Look! Lesbians and pretty pictures! Whooo!!" XD

I've read the entire manga, watched the whole series, and of course the movie. While they were all enjoyable in their own ways, I definitely prefer the anime series over all. I didn't really mind Nanami's big brother complex, but then again I suppose anime has seriously dulled my sensitivity to that, at least in animation. Nanami and Touga were just one of three implied incestuous relationships in the series, lol.
Also: Kozue a tomboy?! Lol WHAT. She is about as far from tomboyish as you can get. Short hair doesn't automatically make a girl a tomboy. XD

Well, "tomboy" in the sense that she climbs out a window to save a baby bird I suppose. But in terms of tomboyishness Utena takes the cake: Then again, this is all due to her wanting to be a Prince and the whole old-fashioned sense of gender roles (girls wear skirts, boys wear pants etc) This is opening a whole new can of worms though so maybe I should quite while I'm ahead!
Since you're a fan of the series, I'll let you in on two of my favorite Utena websites! (The one hasn't been updated in forever, but it's still good)
The first is Blood Soaked and Honor Bound : This is an absolutely HILARIOUS website that unfortunately has a few broken links and hasn't been updated since 2003 *sadness* It's still very entertaining!
The second is Empty Movement : This site has a RIDICULOUSLY huge art gallery, like holy wow. Everything you can possibly imagine is in there; even artwork and screencaps of the Sega Saturn video game (yes, such a thing existed) It's perfect for references!
