Day 9|1
Blessing names: Kermode Bear (Spirit Bear) | Orange King Bougainvillea
How many Blessings: 2
Rarity: Super Rare
Eyes: Super rare glowing flame pupils
Description of blessings and Annie:
The Spirit bear, is known as the Kermode bear and the ‘Moksgm’ol’ (“white bear”) to the Kitasoo natives,
on the coastal islands in Canada who venerate this rare black bear sub-species.
As white polar bears are commonly seen in their arctic habitat,
seeing a white bear in green background is an unusual sight.
The coloration of the Spirit bear results from recessive trait of genetic mutation involved with melanin production,
making the breed extremely rare; only one in ten individuals are born with white or cream fur and the estimated population is no more than 400.
Apart from the rare genetic occurrence, the Spirit bear faces other factors that contribute to their endangerment that include habitat loss,
climate change, and commercial fishing which impacts their food main source. The white furred Spirit bears are most successful hunting during the day,
as they can conceal from unwary salmon. In addition, competition with the larger and more aggressive Grizzly bear,
has recurrently banished American black bears and kermode bears from the better fishing areas. Ironically,
the prohibition of white Kermode bear hunting does not restrict the hunting of black Kermode bears which are carriers of the recessive gene,
therefore the hunting is another major contribution to the endangered status of the Spirit bear.
Bougainvillea ‘Orange King’ is a quick growing with bracts vary from primarily orange to dusty pink, to bronze.
The plant benefits from regular water while getting established, while after the first-year occasional watering suffixes.
To grow its brightest colours, the plant should be in full sun. In colder climates,
the plant can be put into hanging baskets as summery adornments to brighten duller landscapes.
The bright colour of the bracts is often mistaken for flowers, which are small, white and tubular.
The plant Bougainvillea is named after the French explorer Louis-Antoine de Bougainville,
who discovered the plant while stopping at the Solomon Islands.
Optional Personality:
This beautiful Annie truly lives up to the name "Spirit bear!"
She has a very mystical forest-fairy vibe, and could even be mistaken for a nymph!
Her golden orange, red, and white colors have a very autumn feel to them,
and she is often be found wandering the forests.
She has climbing Bougainvillea as a headpiece and throughout her dress,
and a long white hair that has a golden ombre to match the Kermode bear fur.
Her ribbon, veil, and dress sway as she tiptoes through the air.
When she is at her most powerful, you can easily see the golden markings on her body that give her strength from her blessing.
No one knows why she is always roaming the forest, but some see her as the protector, as poachers and scavengers tend to stay away when she is there.
She's a slightly mysterious girl who watches from afar and doesn't open up to many, but sees it her duty to protect woodland creatures as best as she can.
When she has the strength, she'll even put up a barrier around the woods to keep unwanted guests out, especially during hibernation season to protect her vulnerable sleeping bears.
She has strong healing and fighting magic for this protection, and a tendency to float though the air while she guards her fellow creatures with her long robes and hair flowing in the wind.
Catching a glimpse of this lovely Annie is a treat for the nearby villagers, who have even began making wives-tales and folklore stories about her. Can you help her protect our furry forest dwellers?
